370z ran the ring in 8:11. The 2020 supra (335hp) ran the ring in 7:52.

car and driver lightning lap.
Supra 2:59
370z Nismo 3:11
Just wondering.. If the 370Z Nismo had a proper quick shifting automatic.. how much do you guys think it would have shaved off those times?

3 seconds maybe. You can’t change the chassis.

with that said.. the substantial bump in HP, torque, slight refinement on the chassis and a faster Automatic should put it closer to the Supra. I still expect the new Z to be a tad slower on the track compared to the Supra, but I'm absolutely will be fine with that.

I’ve seen a stock supra run 11.9 on the drag strip on stock wheels. Numbers are definitely off
There are plenty of dyno videos on youtube suggesting it's underrated from the factory.

That said, in my opinion if it performs well for the price then no harm no foul!

I own a 370Z with the Nismo 19" 5-spoke wheels, and to me the car doesn't feel heavy at all- if anything too light, LOL. I knew the weight had to go up over the 370Z- the twin turbo engine weighs more, more sound deadening, more safety features added. There isn't much they can do to cut weight and keep the price reasonable- the suspension parts and engine cradle are alloy, alloy hood, alloy doors, alloy hatch.

Speaking of weight, looks like the new Z has a GVWR roughly 242lbs more than the 370Z.

It all depends on how it ‘carries’ its weight?? Close your eyes it’d better feel like a friggin’ Miata!

I'm still stuck with the 90's mindset that a sports car weighs ~1250kg, but I know car chassis and especially tyre tech has improved a lot since then so I'm hoping it delivers a comparable experience.

No, the weight went up slightly over the 370Z which everyone was expecting.
The 2 biggest determining factors for me (and I assume many others): available with stick, price.

That's a deal killer for me. I'm not interested in a new Z (used to own a 2013 370Z Sports) if it's going to weigh that much.

GVWR isn't just the weight of the car. It might only be 50lbs heavier with other things adding to GVRW.

It's the maximum weight that the car is rated to handle, including occupants and cargo. A higher GVWR is a good thing, it's the kerb/curb weight you want to be low.
