Disagree. I personally think $50k is a fair asking price for performance spec. And I can see a Nismo reaching $65-70k. Everything has simply gotten more expensive.
Agreed, but I see the Nismo being around 60k-65k max hopefully, which would still undercut the GRMN version of the Supra.

Agreed @Blackbeard - I really don’t think Nissan can afford for this thing to crack the 50k tier for Performance spec.

Yes, we’re dealing with inflation and a once-in-a-generation pandemic causing all kinds of problems, but that shouldn’t warrant asking for more than the car is (likely) worth.

They HAVE to undercut Toyota, and by a healthy margin. MSRP is just shy of 52k for the 6-banger, so anything north of 47k is playing with fire imo.

Anything close to 50k is not going to be successful. Let alone dragging this release to the bitter end and flopping the price. Pretty much from what i seen on sitting reviews it really is a reskinned 370z. Lots of parts bin interior but revamped but as you see in modern cars today that’s pretty much standard now. So now can you justify a 10k increase from the base 30k 370z with just a couple of things upgraded (the engine) but it is already an old engine made for the infiniti. Seems like this huge delay for the firm price reveal is to really get it right for people to justify buying this car. My guess would be 38k for the sport grade and 44k for the performance but hey who knows ??

I simply would never buy a BMW. The Mustang will still be a tank. The GR86 is too underpowered. The Z is made in Tochigi, Japan. Nissan just spent $300+ million on that factory for more robots and improved fit and finish.
Yes. Completely agree. And I am from Canada (disclaimer) but why does everyone think 50K is a lot for a car? That is basically free here where I live. The Supra is 72K. Cayman 4.0L is 115K. If you want a 4 cylinder then to me that's not a sports car. The entry level Cayman at 350HP with a 4pot you can have.

Wait...was this in a Bond film?

I have to respond again...why did you sell this?
Because I wanted the z And I couldn’t have both.
Also the Peugeot was almost 7 years old…little things started going wrong with it, and being European those little things cost a lot.
Also as mentioned not many survived, the turbo engine was know to explode, and along with car accidents etc only around half still remain, therefore I kept thinking it was only a matter of time till my number came up.
I loved it though, it was a joy to drive, lots of fun, comfortable, the right amount of tech without being over done
At one stage we did actually own a Lotus Esprite, same type that was in the Bond movies …that went when we had kids

I literally Stood at the end of my driveway and cried as it drove away when I sold it, but was probably for the best.
I only wish I had kept it for a bit longer…had I known the wait for the Z was going to be this long I would have, but I was told it would be here December last year, so the RCZ was sold in October and now I drive an old crappy Hyundai i20 which will be my younger sons first car ?

lol tell me u havent been in the newer mustangs.
I've driven Mustangs. Hate the interior, handling, and looks. Terrible fit and finish. A 5.0 GT got beside me on I-15 between LA and Vegas and kept honking his horn at me, so I obliged and pulled away from that tank.

While I obviously want the sticker price to be as low as possible, one thing to consider when comparing the Z vs. the Zupra is long term cost of ownership, not just the sticker price.

BMW 3-Series Vs Audi A4 Vs Nissan 370Z Vs Lexus IS

The 3 Series is one of the most popular BMW models. We decided to compare its maintenance and repair costs to models from a few other brands: the Audi A4, Nissan 370Z, and Lexus IS. Like before, we’ll look at five-year costs for owning 2019 and 2015 models.

First, we’ll compare the 2019 BMW 330i, 2019 Audi A4, 2019 Nissan 370Z, and 2019 Lexus IS 300:

CostBMW 330iAudi A4Nissan 370ZLexus IS 300
2019 Vehicle Price$44,699$44,752$29,319$36,616
2019 Vehicle Maintenance For Next 5 Years$7,948$7,344$4,952$7,973
2019 Vehicle Repairs For Next 5 Years$2,609$2,149$677$1,140

For 2019 models, there’s not much difference between the BMW 330i and the Audi A4. The Lexus IS 300 is right up there for maintenance costs, but repairs are much cheaper. But the Nissan 370Z wins the battle with the cheapest maintenance and repairs.

Now, let’s look at the 2015 BMW 328i, 2015 Audi A4, 2015 Nissan 370Z, and 2015 Lexus IS 250:

CostBMW 328iAudi A4Nissan 370ZLexus IS 250
2015 Vehicle Price$15,924$18,342$20,529$21,373
2015 Vehicle Maintenance For Next 5 Years$10,700$8,118$7,244$10,044
2015 Vehicle Repairs For Next 5 Years$8,842$7,291$2,514$3,208

$50k is not a lot for a brand new Sports car. However, for what the "new" Z is, $50k is up there in terms of price considering there is a lot of carry over from the 370Z. $50k US would be like $63.5k CA.

It's really all going to come down to the reviews next month. They will make or break the car. 0-60 time, weight, just how much is exactly the same as the 370Z, etc. I'm sure the media will even give their personal opinions on whether or not the car will be worth the price it ends up being at. We will have to wait and see.

If Nissan is smart they won't price it anywhere near the M240i M-lite or Supra. They will both blow the Z's doors off most likely. And BMW fit/finish/quality of materials will likely be far ahead of the old recycled parts bin bits in the Z. Look at that center console how it is the definition of cheap scratchy hard plastic. A place your arm rests a lot. The Z is on an ancient platform and has a seasoned motor. It's chassis and geometry is revised, which I'm fine with. But it has to be priced accordingly. Especially for an image car.

They said around $40k for the base model, alluded just shy. And if you compare what you get from a base model to a performance, you ain't getting $10k of stuff lol. When they're probably paying only $50 more per wheel, $100 for the brakes, $60 for the spoiler, etc. It'll probably cost them less than $2000 and they are going to charge $10k? Craziness. And that's not including baked in profitability being recycled so heavily.

Sports cars are image cars, not known to be massively profitable. The SUVs and Trucks are margin leaders. You get someone to buy a Z, they may buy a Pathfinder for their other, maybe a Titan, maybe a Rogue for their kid/mom/etc.
