M/T RZ34 Z with A/T Axleback Exhaust. Sound clip inside

I think this would be a perfect 'in between' mod for me. My 24 Performance 6MT is, just like many here think, way too quiet. I'm trying to narrow down a full exhaust setup, but I want something easy to do in the meantime that gives me a moderate sound bump.

I think I'm going to either end up going with this if I can find one cheap enough or just buying a muffler delete.

just installed my a/t axle back and fitment was perfect - lol. The tips are perfectly centered in the bumper cutouts.

the m/t axle back access is tight but i did the swap without lifting the car.

For the flange nuts, my breaker bar was too big (profile height wise) and no room for a my cordless impact wrench (pistol style). you need a low profile right angle impact wrench, ratchet or standard box wrench.

i used a box wrench and lightly tapped it with a mallet to break the flange nuts loose. They are not bad to remove. I did use PB blaster on the nuts.

Then I removed the hanger brackets (space is tight with the m/t muffler and i was not going to fight the hangers and the flange studs. Hanger brackets are super easy to remove and re-install.

Sliding the muffler toward the rear bumper to clear the mid pipe flange studs Is tight. Not much room to slide the muffler flange off the mid pipe studs before the muffler hits the rear bumper.

Life is easier on jack stands. My breaker bar and pistol impact gun made the swap out easy. I too ubolted the hanger brackets. Using Soapy Warter (Dawn and Warter) in a spray bottle to get the hanger bushings off. I used a plumbers wrench to get them off.

It worked out good without lifting. I thought about lifting as normal. since the flange connection was so close to the rear of the car, I decided to try without lifting and it worked out good. My chest was the right height to hold the muffler in position for removing and re-installing. lol.

I just got back from a test run. I am loving this setup - it’s perfect and worth every penny.

I just got back from a test run. I am loving this setup - it’s perfect and worth every penny.

I just completed the swap. I backed the car onto low angle ramps giving me more room to work. It took me about 40 minutes to do it that included using new gaskets that I ordered from dealer. It definitely sounds better, but not terribly louder or droning noise. I wish I would have also ordered new bolts, but will do that next.

I was having trouble driving my m/t car when I first got it because I could not hear it. Now it's perfect.

Same thing happened to me. I just replaced the muffler with straight pipes. It sounds good. I did placed sound deadened material in the trunk. I also had the ASE turned off.

I'm not aware of anything, but considering straight catback exhausts that are larger in diameter such as AWE track exhaust only gain 6hp (more in torque) i would assume not much at all

I don't think there is much horsepower to gain on an exhaust in general on a stock car, or at least enough to feel it.

Agreed. No way any manufacturer would leave enough on the table for a sports car that a muffler change or even a full catback change would be noticeable by anything other than a dyno.
Changes in weather can make a bigger difference in HP than a lot of upgrades, and you never feel that.
Some simple mods can make a human-noticable difference. Catbacks, intakes, etc., I consider "psychosomatic gains." When you THINK it's faster because the car makes more noise or the part was expensive.
