Catch Can Thoughts

Nissan Z performance 2024
Heres how much I caught after 2000km (1250 miles). I use 5w30 oil, its hot here, and rev the car out everytime I drive. Looks to be about 30-40ml? I dont know you be the judge, but its definitely worth it in the long term in my opinion.

I get it and it's a long standing debate. In the Mopar world when the Hellcats 1st came out was the same type of conversations. I don't say they hurt I just don't know if they are needed. I only can relate my experience and I think I might have the highest mileage original owner Hellcat in the country thats a M6

Apples and oranges my friend. I understand Hellcat is tune port injected? So fuel runs over the back of the intake valves cleaning them off. The Z is direct injection. So the atomized oil cakes the back of valves and the intake tract in the head and bakes on.

You don’t think that decreasing the amount of oil in the intake is helpful? And the point was that the debate in the world of a tune port injected car is different than a direct injection platform. If the VR30 was tune port then I would have never spent the money on a catch can. I have one and when I dumped it at 2k miles, I was glad that I kept it out of my intake. But, to each their own right!

I’ve heard of the walnut blasting thing. BG has a solvent spray system to clean valves, but it’s complicated and may require special equipment. It might be a dealer/professional mechanic only thing. And the conversation I had about it today led me to believe it isn’t cheap, as it takes a while and the tech has to babysit the vehicle the whole time..

No, anything helps it will delay the inevitable if you put enough miles on it, that's all. I think the breather works well also and I'm curious to see with DI, again I have the walnut blaster already and they work GREAT so if it comes to that all good. Again, not knocking a catch can, can't hurt just was presenting another option. Again, long standing discussion . Something is better than nothing.

I had that service on my Q50. It was done at Nissan and yes it can only be purchased through an authorized BG dealer and has to be done by them. It was suggested by Seb @ Specialty Z. I didn’t get in there with a camera for a before and after so I’m not sure how amazing the service is. I was told that people have done before and afters and have seen amazing results.

Thanks, I use 5w/30 too and have a Z1 catch can also. I’m surprised at how black the oil gets so soon after an oil change, the ridiculous plastic oil pan still holds nearly a litre after draining due to the position of the drain plug which doesn’t help.

Yes. Get the Z1 oil pan. I might do that on my next oil change.
