From what I've been reading and even what my dealer told me, there are only going to be a couple cars available at each dealership for purchase. Since they don't want to flood the market... lol. I don't know how many people are in the new car market (excluding the youtubers with daddy's cash) considering what's happened in the world recently. So I'm guessing it will probably be just like the C8 with ridiculous dealer markups and sitting on waiting list for 3 years. Hopefully not but from what I'm hearing it ain't good.

It's going to be the best selling Z since the Z31 I feel (the current champ) - the bang for buck factor and a stick are going to help

Nothing I've heard that its going to be a limited edition car. Its not in the same class as the Corvette. IMO its more more in line with something like the Mustang and they make tons of those. I could be wrong, but hope not as I'm ready to buy a car now.

My dealer told me, not every dealership will get them..and he is only getting three to start.
I am in Western Australia, and we have been extremely lucky covid wise. We have probably had 4 weeks lock down total, and next to no local infections. Because we have continued to work, and because we can’t leave the country for holidays ...new car sale ( even second hand sales) and housing has gone through the roof.
Think They will sell out within a week of going on sale here...maybe sooner

I don’t think we are gonna see the Z be as scarce as the C8. Nissan needs this car to be a hit and sell in order for it to be considered a success. At least here in the US, I believe the car will be widely available, maybe not at first ‍♂.

We shouldn't forget that there is a chip shortage and supply chain shortage right now which is causing the delay in new cars to be built.

The reason for high markup on the C8 is because it is the new vette, but Chevy can't build them fast enough to meet demand. Supply and demand issue.

I will not pay a cent in ADM. If Nissan dealers pull a C8 I will go with something else. I know the first few months will be like this but I am hoping by 2022 production issues for all cars will be better and a lot of Z's can get produced.

I really feel like it wont be a C8 situation. The Z has always been the budget friendly sports car, so a lower price point seems inevitable. With that being said, lower price point should mean lower profit margin. With Nissan needing to generate revenue asap (ya know, cause they were quite literally close to ****ing the bed), they would need to focus more on volume. I understand the chip shortage will negatively impact this, but I feel as if Nissan has been planning this launch for years. Hope I’m right.

As I have been following the C8 Corvette marketplace for awhile now (want one but not decided), there are a decent number of people who are getting them at MSRP. It's the secondary market that is really prompting the price hikes above sticker. Between people flipping them and some dealerships taking in trades for outright buying, it's a crazy setting right now. The price point, along with the pandemic-related supply chain issues, have definitely pushed the balance toward higher demand than available supply. They've cranked about 20,000-ish for 2020 and are on track to do that for 2021. I think they probably could be selling 30,000+ easily, especially since there are RHD variants and interest internationally.

Just like the situation for the C8, it's probably a good idea to get friendly with a Nissan dealer who sold a lot of 370Zs since that's where the allocations will likely go.

EDIT - I really like the Z even though it's in a different product market segment. If the rumored price of mid-30s holds up, that could tip the scales for me to get a new Z. I miss my 1990 non-turbo 2-door 300ZX from long ago.

The C8 stuff is mind boggling to me. i have access to dealer auctions and i'm confused as to how people are getting $100k or more for cars that are only $70-80k if you bought it new. plus the dealer markup is so dumb. there is legit 3 full pages of 2020 and 2021 vettes at the auction right now. i really dont believe there is a major shortage in which the current $30k markup would make some sense.

i really do hope nissan doesnt do this with the Z. i dont believe there would be a need to aside from low supply. the current shortage of chips for computer controlled systems is really hurting car production. but it does have the used car market being quite nice if you're selling lol

Why would production be constrained? It shares an assembly line with the Q60/Q50/Skyline - all of which are barely being built. And the lines for those are barely crawling. They need to build as many as they can.
That said, get ready for a huge markup at dealers. And Nissan has no control over that. As someone said earlier, there are people who want the first one of a new thing no matter what. That's why you see Mach 1s being marked up 15k.

production will be slowed by the chip/semiconductor shortage.

as bad as i want one, i will buy one barely used. i'll let one of those other people take the initial depreciation hit driving it off the lot lol

Happy to take the hit for you ... nothing like a brand new car

As to price, my dealer has put an estimate of 80,000 on it, hoping that it will definitely cover what the price point actually is (note he will only charge me what the sticker price is, if it’s much cheaper I won’t have to pay the $80,00)
Keep in mind, I’m in Australia...currently the C8 pre orders are$166,000 on the road. A new Nismo will currently cost you $70,000 and a Supra $87,000

im guessing will come in around $75,000

I love my first-delivered from local dealer GT-R on 29 August 2008, but if the price is right [ aka trade-in covers it], I might be tempted. After all, I'm 80 now, and don't need a top speed of 193 anymore. I might accept a bit slower 400Z for my grocery runs.

Maybe. Of course, it would increase my annual dues to the Dallas Z Club of Texas from Associate member $25 to full member again of $36 like back when i had my one-owner 1972 240Z. I dunno...

you make me happy that i dont live in Australia seeing those prices lol but i do know it's only due to exchange rate just crazy to see is all.

i bought my Z 2 years old with 1300 miles on it for way less than what that guy paid. i'm perfectly ok with that.
