For anyone hesitating on doing this. I've had these one for a year now, and no error or complaints from the car. Go for it I'd say.

If I bite on this one I'll remove the heatshrink and report back. We have miles of it here at work.
Because the ohm value changed there could be an issue with the meter, but I assume there's more than just one resistor.

Read through the service manual and I can't find the wiring for these units.
They're connected through connectors E45, and E46 but I never saw a specific diagrams for those.
At any rate I'm going to assume there is a solenoid coil in each, this would explain the low resistance reading when measuring with an ohmmeter. The ECU might just be looking to make sure the circuit is complete to prevent codes from appearing. So, in theory, a low ohm resistor should work.

This shows the carbon fiber cover designed for the GTR, will need to fit them as they are too large.

For this part, what did you use to make it work?
Dremel tool is in my mind to shape/drill it out.
I've stated in previous posts, I am anal about a clean install and not having to rework anything.
AND THANK YOU! for the detailed pictures and details on the how to ... it is MUCH appreciated!

I have not done anything to my covers yet, I bolted them in using one of the holes and just rotated them under the plastic so the entire opening is covered, I may just leave them like that. I have not had time to mess with them and since it looks ok I probably will leave them alone.

I'm glad the post helped you out!

Interested in the deletes, but for now I just unbolted the poppers leaving them plugged in, removed the bracket, wrapped in a rag with tape and laid them down where they were installed. Looking at pics of expanded ones there should be enough space for them to expand without hitting anything valuable should the worst happen. Then I used a couple plastic plugs to fill the opening from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSFDT731?

Plan to either get deletes or hopefully someone opens some up to see what the resistor is used to make my own.

Interesting solution, that's the first I've heard of someone doing this and I think it's brilliant. I agree that there is plenty of room in there for them to pop and not hurt a thing.

It's one of the few places under the hood that is roomy.

Confirmed a 2ohm resistor will work.
Removed the drivers side and put a resistor in the socket to test.
No codes after running for a bit.
2 Ohm 1 W resistors we're like $8/100 on Amazon. Probably like 20 cents each if you have an electronics place close by.
Just need to solder, and heat shrink it to the original connector and should be good.

Final product. Put a few layers of heat shrink on for added protection.
Reused the original flex hose and crimped the end to seal it 👍
