I replaced the stock seats from my Nissan Z Performance MT with Recaro SR-S. Feels very much OEM but way better driving position. Lumbar support is good with ample lateral bolsters for spirited driving. This new release Recaro SR-S were specifically designed for modern-day sports cars with low driving position such as the Nissan Z RZ34

So when you go with seats like this, i guess you are foregoing safety like the side airbags? Does this only leave you with front airbags? my only concerns.

Yes you lose the seat airbags.

The Nissan Z is equipped with 6 airbags. These include dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbags.

Thank you. I did not know there was roof mounted bags. Cool.

I lucked out and found used Nismo 370z seats. They bolt right in and had same harness as the RZ34 Sport. It was straight plug-and-play.

My own regret is not re-tightening the assembly as the seat is a bit squeaky.

Good to know the harness is identical, seat airbags are also compatible then. Those seats fit much better for me. I would lose the power adjustments in my Performance, wonder if the harness is also plug and play?. Did you compare weights?

You would lose power adjustments as the motors are on the seat on Performance trim. I don't think you would cause a DTC for disabling power functionality. The harness is different for sure and the rails.

I did not weigh the Nismo but they felt about the same if not slightly heavier than the Sport seats, they will definitely be lighter than the Performance seats.

I'm in the same boat. I just can't get comfortable in the new Z seats. I've tried every adjustment I can think of. I hate to say it but this might be a deal breaker on keeping the car.

Just change the seats to Recaro. The stock seats are NOT ergonomic. After changing the seats, I really felt great driving the Z!

I might try that myself, have an arthritic hip and usually after driving more than 45 minutes it starts throbbing, looks like the plastic base might be causing it?
Im a big guy (6"2" 225)and otherwise have plenty of legroom, headroom, sholder room

The plastic piece hits me right in the hip bone also, I'm 6'1. I think it might be related to dropping the seats all the way low because it squeezes the bolsters between the plastic trim. I unclipped the plastic trim piece and it's better as it give a few more mm for it to move.

I may end up removing the plastic trim all together like someone in this thread did.

Can anyone confirm the Nismo's recaro's trim piece is better? The seats have exactly the same bottom cushion/bolsters but the plastic trim piece is slightly different, maybe it's not as high and narrow? It would be great if we could just buy the Nismo plastic trim and be done with it.

I went to the dealer to sit in a Nismo. The seats are better with great bolsters, but the plastic trim was the same and still annoyingly right under the padding. My local auto body shop removed that side trim for $150. It's not perfect because you can feel the metal of the seat frame, but it's significantly better to the point where I am okay with the seat now.

So the only two Recaros that retain airbag compatibility are the 370Z and Z Nismos? Plug and play? I know I will lose the electrics for heating and adjustments but those aren't that important.

Anyone put new seat that give you a little more headroom and go back a little further than stock.

if it’s the plastic and not a support inside the bolster you could remove the plastic piece, trim it a little, then hit it with a heat gun to close the gap back to the seat. The Way I picture it in my head it would still look factory, but would let the bolster smush a little further before it hits the plastic.
