I just rolled over 1200 and looking to do an
oil and filter change

Despite what the Owners Manual suggests, would this be a good time to do the trans fluid?

oil change makes sense I did one around that time too. you absolutely dont need to even think about the trans fluid. its sealed and doesnt see the breakdown the engine oil does.

I have always simply followed the manufacturers recommendations, seeing no reason to try to second-guess them on taking care of the engine that they made. I don't really believe in break-in or changing break-in oil, but I confess that when I took the Z in to the dealer at 1800 miles to get the sway bars adjusted, I had them change the oil and filter as long as the car was already up on the lift.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind for the trans.

I rarely follow the oil change recommendations. 5k is standard for me. Bad habits hard to break

5k is probably going to be my routine as well.

It's kind of crazy the Z is actually 10K interval for oil with 0W-20. Obviously Nissan has done tons of R&D on this but no harm in doing it more often

The oil used initially when building the car is a standard oil to help break in the engine. It is not recommended to use a synthetic prior to break-in period. After that I change my oil with a full synthetic every 3K miles. Having the oil changed at the dealership is very cost effective. 😊

Not just Nissan. I noticed a lot of manufacturers has it at minimum of 10k for oil change service. I cant remember the manufacture that I read the owners manual service page, it stated 20k oil change service.

What year is your Z? Looking at your dash, I have a Diff Temp gauge where you have an accelerator gauge.

I just had my oil changed at 900 miles while the Z1 Turbos were installed. I had planned on doing it at 1500 anyway. For the Transmission at most I would do a filter and plan on it at 1500.

My nephew manages several of his dad's autoshops and he told me some of the newer Mercedes auto trans don't need fluid changes. The Performance 9-speed is a Mercedes trans.

To be technically correct, the Z's 9-speed AT is made by JATCO under license from Mercedes. JATCO is largely owned by Nissan and makes a wide variety of transmissions, including their CVT, which is pretty notorious for its limited lifespan.
