For sake of consolidating threads, sharing this piece of dealer-related news I just saw (via FB) here -

Per a Nissan dealer today - November 18:

An update for everyone. This morning Nissan sent out emails to us saying reservations for the Ariya are currently in motion. This is a big deal due to the new Z being the next car to be rolled out by Nissan. As it currently stands, this isn't conformed but we should expect Z reservations to begin some time after January 3rd.

So when is delivery for the Ariya?

Bit ambiguous. Are they suggesting dealer or customer reservations?

Ariya deliveries will begin fall 2022.
But I don't think you can draw an analogy between Ariya and Z.
One is EV and the other ICE.
Chip shortage impacts differently to both.

Let us start 2022 with a new Z pre-order.
Happy New Year.

Of course, but you would think that they would not open pre orders until they had the chips to make the cars. Therefore the time between pre order and delivery should be similar no?

I think they get an idea how big of a chip order to put in by the pre orders…I work in car manufacturing and we’re building even with chip shortages.

That's...rather significant. While the Ariya is for sure in motion, and we have visibility into it via reservation page, etc. are they drawing conclusions about the Z? It kind of sounds like they are, but either way this gives us something new to hope for/work towards. I assume they haven't given an idea of when they might expect the reservations to be confirmed, too? A few to several months out from launch makes sense, I'd think?

Either way, I'm going to text the handful of dealers I've been in contact with to see if they're sharing the same sentiment.

Any dealer inputs right now I won't take seriously. The Ariya has a more immediate future for Nissan to roll out to customers, EVs are critical for any automaker, I'm betting my TSLA, RIVN, and LCID stocks are keepers. On the other hand the Z is such a small niche who knows when 'customer' orders will be opened up......I'm not too excited yet. BTW, which dealership was this, a reputable one?

An EV needs more chips than an ICE vehicle does.
Ariya (any EV) will be more impacted by chip shortage than the new Z.

Why not Tesla?
Long story short, Tesla took measures to deal with chip shortage.
They re-designed some ad hoc chips inhouse instead of using widely available chips.

Regarding MSRP for the Ariya, I did an online chat with a customer rep this morning. Rep told me regardless of the reservation, the final price will be determined by the dealership :(.

If the price is not right just remove it. If they mark cars up I’m waiting . Not overpaying on a car. Ever .

I agree. Nissan announcement never mentions about pricing.
However, the snapshot I posted shows that my local dealer agrees on MSRP. (see the fine print in snapshot)
They might not be alone.... since I am in SF Bay Area. EVs are more popular here than elsewhere.

Which dealer is that? Did you order straight from them?

I don't want a Ariya... or any EV .. yet.
Owning an EV makes more $$$ sense if you have solar panels on your roof.

That was from Nissan of San Jose (or Premier Nissan).
