Took my Z up into the mountains just South of Pocatello. I tell you; this 23 Proto Spec is just an amazing car. I dropped into Sports mode and started padel shifting through the winding mountain road. When I crested the top and saw that long straight section I just had to stop. Turned off my traction control. Held down the brake pedal and gave it gas, the rear tires started just spinning. I released the brake pedal, the ass squatted, and she took off like a bullet. I was at 50mph before i shifted to 2nd, at 90mph I shifted to 3rd and let out of the gas. The sound of that engine at 7000RPm was just amazing.
Now my Angel is all stock, not one mod on her yet, I have only had her 2 months. I then decided to do a run without using launch control, just stick her in M 1st and gas it from a dead stop. She only took a split second for them turbos to kick in and she was gone, shifted into 2nd and spin the rear tires at 115mph I finally let out of the gas.
So much fun. I was down the road to the valley floor. Made my right turn and dropped back into Automatic set my speed at 75, 50MPH limit on the rd. And just enjoyed the long sweeping corners for the next 20 miles.
Just the Perfect day with my Angel.

LC on the auto hooks ok at times but is vert dependent on surface. ive found tire pressure needs to be about 28 for it to be consistent

OP great to hear about the fun you are having with your car!

I keep the rears at 28-29 and launch control on my automatic grips real nice with the Potenzas, nice little rear end hitch going into 2nd and 3rd, so much fun. I have no issues with the Potenzas, I may go to Continentals once they wear out just because they are my favorite brand but as this car gets broken in the Potenzas grow on me, to me they have just enough give for fun, lots of fun.

I think my rears were at 28 or 27. Then again it was also in the 50's out. But even during normal 'summer' temps I will spin 1st and 2nd at wot, 3rd if raining.

I'm genuinely curious how Nissan could both pick a tire this bad, and how there could be a 'high performance summer' tire this bad. If I had the facilities for it I'd like to try comparing them against some Linglongs or "mucho machos" someone else linked on another thread just for laughs.

Probably going to go with some PS4S or some RE71's

Just saying, Mucho Machos may be like driving on ABS plastic, but you can get a full set for the same price as ONE rear Michelin PS Cup 2. 🄓

Regardless, because of this…I’m out.

I don't think you actually performed the Launch Control procedure for an auto. I have done it a few times. I always had TC on but what I do is:
- Sport mode
- Left foot on brake
- Once at a complete stop press gas to the floor with right foot and pull both paddles at the same time.
- The dash will actually pop up and say "Launch Control" and your wheels will not spin but the Z sits back a bit, ready to go.
- Let go of both paddles and then within 7 seconds take your left foot off the brake. And keep the right foot on the gas.
- GO!!!!

Out of the maybe 7 times I have done it I only slipped once to the point I had to let off. Every other time it gripped very quickly as I let off the brake. Would chirp and spin a bit when shifting but held on to the road way better than if I didn't do Launch Control.

With a price that low, it would be hilarious to try. How much worse could they possibly be.

I hate to sound like I'm gratuitously hating on the S007's or maybe I just have bad luck but those things are awful. 26-28 PSI on the rears and I still spin in first and second.

I'm indifferent to UM, but most of my extended family went to FSU so I go against them for that reason alone. I'm one of few that pulled a black sheep and went out of state.

I finally tried Launch Control. I’m sure it’s quicker, but it doesn’t feel like it as the driver. I would use it doing stop light takeoffs.

It appears that the Sport 6MT is the only version without Launch Control. Found that in the brochure, and was surprised my Sport 9AT does have it.

As far as I know, true ā€œLaunch Controlā€ can’t be done on a manual transmission, as an integral part is the gear shifts. Hence, Manual vs Automatic. However an inherent part of MT’s is a key component (THE key component?) of launch control, RPM modulation before driveline engagement.

Not sure what you mean by "true" launch control but it does have it. I assume to just try and not spin the tires... as much.

I should have chosen better words.
100% throttle with rpm modulation is definitely launch control, but because you’re still manually working the clutch pedal (not ā€˜release and go’ like an AT), that’s what I was getting at. ā€œTrue launch controlā€œ wasn’t the best way to describe it.

i may be misunderstanding how it works with the MT, and if so please correct me.

From the video it appears to do the same thing as the AT and hold RPMs with the pedal to the floor.

The RPM that is held is adjustable, factory setting is 2,000. Anyone tried any higher settings for a more aggressive launch?
