Z1 Diverter Valve to Blow Off Valve Conversion Kit

I had this installed by a shop and at first I was very pleased with the audbile "pshhh" it now makes when you let off the throttle but I did notice a new problem. Whenever the car shifts (Auto trans) the shifts are sometimes jerky, a lot jerkier than stock. It's not every time, sometimes it shifts perfectly smooth, but other times it almost feels like a manual transmission being shifted.

Any idea what it can be? Z1 Support mentioned a vacuum leak but I don't think that's correct, the idle is as smooth as stock and when giving the car gas it is also perfectly smooth. The problem only ever occurs during shifts. In my opinion I think it might need a tune, but you really would think Z1 would test this and at least let buyers know what they can expect.

I’ve tested all modes and I’ve gotten jerky shifts in both auto and manual mode. At one point I thought it was due to my throttle control but one day it was jerking even when I was slowly accelerating and deliberately babying it. It’s interesting you say you’ve had jerky shifts, I don’t remember having any before this mod. One thing I did notice is if I accelerate and let off the throttle so the boost vents to atmosphere and THEN shift, it is always smooth. So I think the jerkiness has something to do with the boost.

Auto transmission have always had the potential for jerkyness in my experience. For example my Z when the trans is cold, sometimes between shifts the rpm jumps a bit and delay before shift. I remember my 96 accord did that lol

Id be hesitant to use these kits. I've seen a few tuners say to avoid them on our cars due to potential issues.

As much fun as blow off valves are(I love the sound too) they are frequently more trouble than they are worth.

At the very least if you really want one it's probably best for a tuner to take a look and see if they can get it to a state that it's at least mostly happy.

If you just get an open airbox intake or take the lids off an aftermarket intake you will get the same exact BOV sound since the valves are located in the turbo inlet. I've done this with my Nismo intake, you can just put the lids back on if you get tired if the sound. No issues, no lights and its 3 bolts done in 5 min.

This sounds like the best solution to have the best of both worlds. The AMS intake looks to have lids that are even easier to remove. I agree with all you guys by the way.....I actually had looked into the kit and decided against buying it, but lo and behold my birthday comes around and I get it as a gift LOL.

I'll have to spend some more time with it and if it continues to be too jerky I'll just get it removed and go with intakes.

What I've been reading is these motors do not like atmospheric discharge (sounds funny) they like bybass. Again, from my reasearch you would be best served by using dual port valves at minimum. Not sure if this is related to your issues, just seems too much of a coincident .

I did the same with my AMS intakes and it's in the middle of the summer haha. I just needed the intake noise!

I got the turbosmart dualport blow off valves and havent had problems with it ever. Had it for like a year now. Best sounding BOV ever still havent gotten sick of it

Unless you're tuned on speed density /blow thru MAF you will always have problems with vent to atmosphere style BOVs.

Sorry are the turbo smart bov exempt to this somehow? I see a few running it including the modded one I was gonna purchase but cancelled due to no warranty

I believe Turbosmart has both vent to air and diverted setups. The diverted setup is plumbed like OEM. What I’ve seen/heard from many sources, as @Midz10 said above, “VR30s don’t like VTA BOVs.”
