I drove mine today. Somebody in a BMW 7 Series at a cross stoplight stuck his phone out of his window to photograph. Once my light turned green, he took more photos and perhaps a video of me driving away.

It might be a year or so before these sales figures translate into real world sightings unless everyone buys these to be their second or third car.

I've seen a handful in my area. We give each other a head nod.

Here in the hinterlands of Minnesota, seeing a Z of any vintage on the road is a rare event. There are two or three 350Z's around, and one or two 370Z's, but I've yet to run across an RZ34 of any variety. Getting randomly addressed by admirers in parking lots and gas stations is a very common occurrence. I've never seen a Supra in the world.

I ran into a Toyota salesman at the barber shop a couple of months ago and asked him about local Supra sales. He said that every one they've had they've ended up trading to other dealers around the country.

I so haven't seen another Z anyplace but at dealerships.

And the Supra is a BMW, you couldn't pay me to buy one.

Gotta keep them rare but love there are owners. I still get people stopping to take a photo of mine, event got out of my car and someone say “beautiful”.

Why? What's the problem? BMW makes a very competent car. The M-series isn't my cup of tea but no denying that it's a competently designed and engineered car.

I've had 2, both TOTAL junk. Germans over-engineer everything possible to the extent that a $45 repair on a domestic vehicle is a $1500+ repair on one their nightmares (think PCV valve, common failure point in all vehicles).

Ever try to change a headlight housing in one? Gotta take off the entire front bumper, etc... just to change the housing or upgrade the bulbs. Why in the hell would you have 3 separate fuse panels one inside, one in the engine and one in the trunk, that are not specific to their own area? The engine fault shutdown is down-right lethal, and that's no shit neither... computer decides the engine "might" be hurt and your ass is PARKED, in traffic, on I-95 (been there).

New they might be ok, but for a vehicle you need to need to walk away from before it hits 6 digits on the clock, they need to be priced closer to a Ford Focus. And they need to come with a bumper to bumper lifetime warranty on the power and drive-train, total junk.

I maintain that the US dropped Fat Man and Little Boy on the wrong country. Should have parked one on BMW headquarters and waited a month and dropped the other in the exact same spot just to reiterate what a bunch of morons BMW engineers are.

...

I would love to have an Isetta though, lol. Not enough there for them to screw up.

Good to see. Reliability aside, I just don't like the look of the supra, and the Z interior is a nicer looking place to be.
I have 1 local Nismo Z, seen a black one on my way to work the one day I didn't drive mine, and spotted another Proto on the highway going the other direction. All in my first 2 months of ownership. I live in Brisbane AUS.

The mustang sales numbers don't surprise me.... Those things are everywhere.

I can’t believe living in the Houston area that I have not seen one Z outside a dealership. I see Supras on a fairly regular basis. I’m sure I will see the Z on the road at some point. Watch me have multiple sightings now that I have written this.

Personally I'm pretty neutral on BMW, but man....that is a great rant. Hats off! I bow to your greater experience with the brand.

Also not a big BMW fan but honestly just liked the Z more than the Supra regardless. Looks better and I liked the interior a lot more.

I don't get worked up over sales numbers but happy the Z is doing good enough to be around for a bit longer - just from a support perspective anyways. Having a lot of fun with mine.

LOL... absolutely NO varish. Damn near getting shmeemed on I-95, and almost arrested for defying a cop demanding you to "MOVE YOUR VEHICLE... RIGHT... FUCKING... NOW" (luckily his partner calmed him down) because those twits programmed a limp mode into their precious vehicles that will NOT allow you to move to protect their total POS engines (can't even turn it to accessory mode and shift to neutral)... man that'll change your opinion TOOT-SWEET!

Yeah, really cool to be "rare" unless you're trying to keep one 10 years after they're no longer made.

There will be parts shortages, both new and used, if not enough Zs are around. Not going to be fun.
And I highly doubt 10 years from now most Z enthusiasts will have options on the new car market to upgrade to.

On aside, the first 2 years of the Z are pretty disappointing. Only 300-ish sold? Ouch.

I hope the numbers keep going up, if Nissan would offer more of the affordable Sport trim, and possibly a Sport+ variant that is basically a Sport with the LSD and Akebonos, I could see them selling a bit more. Currently, making mostly $53k+ versions of a small 2 seater in a poor economy doesn't bode well for overall sales.
