Looking to order the Mishimoto Catch Can but in their video, it shows you have to remove the intercooler. Has anyone installed the Mishimoto Catch Can without removing the IC? How difficult was the install?

Originally was going to go with the Z1 but with shipping and taxes, its $100 more than the sale price of the Mishimoto version. I also ordered the Skip Plate so it would be a nice match but if I have to remove the IC, I may pass on this upgrade.

I just watched install videos for the Mishimoto and the Z1 catch-cans, and both look similar in that the driver's side intercooler needs to be removed. Overall, pretty simple looking task so I wouldn't let that stop you if you want one. Mishimoto is especially good about instructions and installation videos.

I think someone on here put it best, getting the intercooler loose of its attachments and then reattached is like arm wrestling Hulk Hogan. I followed Mishimotos video step by step, it's very good and will allow you to complete the job. Watch out for the exposed turbo inlet hose circled in red in my photo after the intercooler is moved to the side. I dropped one of my A/C caps in there somehow. Not fun.

Allow yourself 3 hours, do it when you will not be in a hurry, take your time and try to have fun.

I'm very happy with the Mishimoto catch can both in looks and function.

Looks good with the Mishi CAI too. I did the CAI and catch can the same day, did the catch can first.

I've got the blue version of this strut bar. Same catchcan as well. Go figure...

Were you able to install the catch can without removing the IC? Possible trying to push thru the hoses?
No. I did try. I think if you had it tied off (new hose) and pulled it through it would work. It's the friction that is the biggest issue.

The intercooler removal was easy. It was putting it back that gave me the most grief. I removed my oil cap. This gave a little more room to maneuver.

Here's the tools I used. Pry bar was used to get the lower coupler on the intercooler. Similar to using a shoe horn for shoes. Pick tool to help guide the hose around the front where its tight and cluttered

I got the short hose through without any trouble but the long one has too many twists to feed through. I had to remove the IC. Also, plus one on the CAI install. I installed the Nismo CAI after the Mishimoto and now I can unscrew the catch can without having to unbolt the frame and move it. Refer to post #3, pics 2 and 3 to see what the before and after looks like with the CAI installed.

My catch can went on at 500 miles followed by the CAI at 850. Here is a pic of the oil the Mishimoto caught in 350 miles. Not a lot, only about a tablespoon or so. But at least this stuff didn't go down the intake.

you can do it without removing the intercooler. i did it. the difficult part for me was to figure out a nice way to rout the hoses.

it's not too difficult. you will even be able to put the new hose onto the oem hose retainer(platic hook)

When you guys do these catch can installs, since the IC needs to be disconnected from the hose (I’m about to tackle the Z1) does the battery neg need to be disconnected so that no codes thrown? Did you have to disconnect any leads to the MAF etc?

I'd disconnect the negative...IMHO.

Although you may be able to do it without, Mishimoto recommends unplugging the MAP sensor from the IC. My MO has always been to disconnect the negative if there's a chance of unplugging or disturbing anything electrical.

I did not and did not get any codes. Probably should have though it cannot hurt.

Can confirm. Was easy enough without removing the intercooler. I used some zip ties run down the old hose for the path of the new one.
