What is interesting is I am working with AMS to spec out a build. I brought up that I'd prefer A2A for my use cases - tracking and maybe eventually time attack, and they quickly said nothing would beat the cooling off A2W and that the A2A kit would be a lot of weight right up front of the engine bay. Not sure how accurate that is, and they also mentioned cooler stacking. But they also suggested making a custom heat exchanger (or two!) to for my use case.

I told them that Nismo' Z super taikyu race car uses A2A and didn't get any response on the but they kept pushing on with A2W..

I wonder if they'll put their reputation where their sales pitch is and chime in here. Maybe I'll send them this link tomorrow!
I can't imaging it would be heavier than the OEM with all the coolant.

As per Z1 website: "Virtually no change in vehicle weight"

in all the logs and cars we saw, i think above is a bit exaggerated

right now with AMS intercoolers and HX in super hot weather i see 130* F

with cooler weather its always in 110-115

Do you take your car to the track or where/when are you seeing your temps?

i agree track conditions would be better A2A

and spray some water on the intercooler to lower the temps like old school EVOs

It looks like Z1 took major shortcuts on the Z but decided to make a better version of the A2A for the Infiniti Q's...look at the air intake.

Someone here mentioned that's why we'd have to chop up our new Z's because they put the intakes up front instead of where they are in the Infiniti version. This is so crazy, they need to make a V2 with this design/no major cutting design for the Z!!

All they have to do is repurpose this for the Z and add in the heat shield like the Greddy kit and they'd be golden!

Go like my post and comment so we can push this in front of Z1! @geminithez

I know I’m a minority with regards to the subject matter but I see no problem at all with adding clearance through the radiator support for the sake of not having a hot air intake. I think it’s a matter of perspective. I wouldn’t feel like I’m “hacking up” or “cutting up” my new car. As long as the radiator and everything else is still secure it’s no big deal at all to me. When I see people running an open intake inside the engine compartment it makes me cringe. I’ve purchased a few things from Z1 and every one of them has been top notch in materials, machining, and fit & finish. If I end up going with an air to air setup, I will more than likely choose the Z1 BECAUSE they have you clearance things and put the filter in front of the radiator. Just my .02

Once you start moving the intakes will get fresh air. It barely matters.

There was a spot in that video where he shows a loss in power and then states that he didn’t let it cool down enough. Point being, during dyno runs things are not the same as when driving a car on the street or on a race track. Numbers are based on a controlled environment. They have a fan blowing on the car when the car isn’t under load. They are able to let temps decrease to target numbers before the next pull. None of this is the case with a daily driven car. So we see an increase average of 6hp but we see a loss of 4 when things aren’t cooled down in this controlled environment. I’m thinking when a car is being driven around in real world conditions, that loss of 4 hp is probably going to be the norm with hot air intakes. Everyone is entitled to think/ believe what they want. I would be willing to bet if that Q had been ran with intakes in front of the rad, they would have picked up even more power and they may have even seen a decrease in charge air temps. The other thing to point out is that this was all using factory intercoolers. With A2A it could be a different story as well. I could be wrong. These are just my thoughts. Heat = Bad. Thanks for the post though. Interesting watch for sure.

Honestly I would want to pair a hot air intake with A2A with front bumper holes guided to the intakes like on the 350z and 370z and also have a vented hood with the vents in the low pressure areas. However, track spec vents arent available for the new Z yet, so buying a used beater hood and putting these in their for track days isnt possible. I guess you could always buy a full aftermarket hood thats vented though

Perfect world I would want cold air intakes, A2A, no cutting, AND a vented hood

I like how that looks. I hope there is a write up on front bumper conversion soon

I have to say it looks sexy

The bumper looks good, I think without the red trim it could work without the Nismo Side skirts. I would say, in the next year or so, as more cars get out there, aftermarket vendors will make a nice direct fit GTR style/Nismo style front fascia. I love the look of the Z, the one area I feel needs improvement is the front end.
