I was thinking of replacing the stock shift knob for a while now. I was very hesitant as the horror stories I heard on the difficulty level of removing the stock knob. I saw a video of this person who removed the stock shift knob with ease. He used a fairly heavy duty strap wrench. I looked it up and it is readily available at Amazon. The brand is Value Max two piece strap wrench set that cost $19.99. Received it today. Pretty heavy duty compares to other strap wrench I had in the past. I used a microfiber towel to cover the shift knob and put this strap wrench to the test. I was surprised I was able to loosen the knob first try. Still I had to continue forcefully kept turning the knob. Eventually I removed it without drama. No damage to the stock shift knob at all. So it is possible to remove this shift knob afterall!

very interested. Did U have to remove the console and put some type of mechanical clockwise resistance resistance on the shaft to counter the counter clockwise of the shift knob being removed.

Not at all. I just put it in neutral.

I replaced my shifter in my 27 Nismo with the same one that Mr. Mac used. I had to use tools to remove it. It's not damaged but it's not without marks either.
I love the new shifter. The dust debris you see by the phone charger is the glue they place at the factory...

Yeah, what's up with that glue they use? It's horrible, I haven't cleaned it off yet and I'm dreading it.

I added the same knob that Mr. Mac and C. Perdomo added. Unlike Mr. Mac, I sure as hell was not able to take the stock shift knob off "unscathed". I made a vid of the struggle. It might help you decide if you want to attempt this job. :)

After watching your video, I will revisit my installation and perfect it. 😆 God, please help us with this "ocd" thing... 😅

I landed a Red 6MT. Currently not in my garage as I'm getting a full front PPF, windshield protection film, and ceramic coating for all the other paint.

This is a well known issue

Make sure you have a strap wrench and no regard for the stock knob
I had no regard for the stock knob - so two large pipe wrenches and the job was done. Shredded the original knob but that was my plan. Simple enough.

I am also interested in swapping out my shifter knob but all I see are very very rough times. Has ANYBODY, other than "eabrick" had a fairly easy experience???
