Yea the IDX has no iconic Z styling cues. Plus Nissan is reportedly still exploring the possibility of producing the IDX so I doubt they'd be doing that and making the Z look like the IDX.
All of these renders are just a terrible mix of the 350/370Z and other Nissans or even Mazdas because there's nothing to go by. I hope the OEM can come up with something better.
I doubt Nissan is thinking internet search terms when naming their cars? But I agree no reason to change the naming convention based on engine displacement, especially since they might be able to "reboot" the iconic 300Z name for the next model.
If it gets the twin turbo 3 liter, I bet it's called the 300Z. To call it by any other # would be weird. And this way they can draw upon a past legend for marketing purposes too.
No shock there. I'd be more surprised if I saw it on the 2016 sheet since if it was going to appear next year there would have been more buzz, rumors, photos, etc. about the car in general. My bet is on 2017 too. No 2016 Tokyo auto show to reveal it at though, wonder what show it would get its...
You never know. That's when concepts usually drop - when nobody is talking about the car or least expecting it. That's how you get the world to take notice and get tons of press.
I don't want some farfetched Formula 1 or Tron looking car that I know has no chance of making production in that form. I want to see a concept that's realistic which they'll be basing the actual production Z off of.
What there needs to be is not a turbo war to see who can create the most HP. They're already sky high.
These damn companies need to stop being lazy and just throwing more power at the problem, which is that cars are too heavy. They need to start having weight reduction wars. Performance and...
Nothing is sacred in the car world anymore. Mustangs are now also powered by 4 cylinders and so will the next Camaro. If next Z somehow lost its V6 it wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world.
I don't think the Z needs to be class leading in weight. It just needs to not pack on more and get that price DOWN.
Don't think Nissan will let that happen. With the Mustang it's not like the previous one wasn't selling well so they didn't really need shave much weight or give it much higher...
The 370z isn't even that heavy - 3,232 lb curb weight. If they can just get it down to 3,000 pounds flat that would already be great IMHO.
400 pounds would mean it weighs 2800 pounds which would blow away everyones expectations!
I'm hoping they drop enough weight and size to just call it a 240z but please please don't bastardize the name by just putting out another 370z porker and using the 240z to try to sell it as a return to roots kinda thing.
Sup all.
First thought about the Z successor from being that Jay Leno video where he talks to the Nissan guy about the evolution of the Z cars. Happy to join others who are interested.
