A Z car must have a 6 cyl at the very least as an option. Not having a V6 would be like a Camaro or Mustang not having a V8 option.
Nothing is sacred in the car world anymore. Mustangs are now also powered by 4 cylinders and so will the next Camaro. If next Z somehow lost its V6 it wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world.

Honestly a good idea. More engines choices = more sales = continued making of the Z. But don't look forward to the infighting that's gonna happen between different sized engine owners.

“[But] there’s still an audience that wants a six-cylinder engine, so why should we give it up? That’s all part of on going studies.”

^^ It's a weird statement IMO. I'm betting MOST people looking at the Z are preferring a 6 in the car and not a 4 cyl. I hope Nissan's studies show them that.

For the Z market, if they want to compete with cars in that segment they are going to need at least a V6.

I won't begrudge them if they slap a 4 banger into the entry model though. Maybe it can be shared with the rumored IDx.

It would to me. 4 cylinder only cars are super small and budget. You can't offer only a 4 cyl in a car that will be priced in the same range as some big V8's and Turbo 6's all pushing 400+ hp and expect to be competitive.

Not true! That's like the Mustang losing the V8. It may have gained a 4 cyl but it didn't lose the V8, which defines the Mustang just like the V6 defines the Z. It would definitely be a shock.

If this report that admin just posted is true then I totally believe that the car will at least have a 4 cylinder turbo engine. But hope that it'll also be offered with a 6 cylinder for those of us that want it.

Offering ONLY a turbo 4 would be a HUGE mistake if they are keeping it the same price range. We are competing with cars that have 6's and 8's and as it stands now the Z is still underpowered and overpriced. I PRAY that doesn't happen.

I'd like to see a "300Z" name return if it gets the twin turbo V6 from the Q60 ocncept.

It wont happen. A 4 cylinder turbo will never output enough for the Z and would only be offered as a base entry model if at all.

well the rumors have circulated for months and months now with no confirmation. a few hints here and there came along (one being the Q60 without its covers on sporting a 3.0T badge.).

now official press release confirming the 3 options coming for the Q50/60.

3.0 V6 TT 300hp tune
3.0 V6 TT 400hp tune

air to water intercoolers up on top the engine, integrated exhaust manifolds, 2 water pumps for cooling, 400hp/350tq.

350tq shows up at just 1600rpm and runs all the way to 5200rpm. not a bad power band.

link below gives full specs and new features. also included is pics of then new engine.
