I know companies do it all the time I'm just saying the Q and Z are different kinds of vehicles under different brands. The Z is the more performance oriented of the two, the pure sports car. I'd like to see it receive more power, but then again if they can take a chunk of weight out of the car...
To purposely detune the same engine for the sports car would be asinine. All the work is already there and it's not like the Q will come anywhere close to pushing the limits of this engine with the factory warranty. If that were to happen you can bet they would never hear the end of it from...
If it gets a TT engine this may be the enthuasiast's most popular Z car yet. Since it's so easy to tune for more power, I'm sure Nissan would put out factory tune too, and a Nismo model, which would both easily give the Z35 more power while retaining factory warranty.
I'd rather Nissan do their own thing too but what platform and parts can they leverage? Sports cars rarely get their own dedicated platform now, its just not profitable enough to justify. Not every sports car can sell like the Mustang and other cars to pull from the parts bin.
The GT-R does just fine being heavier than its competitors by overcoming physics with technology.
I wonder if 1) Nissan has the R&D and platform investments made to do serious lightweighting to their sports cars and 2) if it is even necessary?
Would anyone really complain if it got some GT-R...
If this report that admin just posted is true then I totally believe that the car will at least have a 4 cylinder turbo engine. But hope that it'll also be offered with a 6 cylinder for those of us that want it.
Turbo is inevitable for the Z and nearly all cars from all manufacturers in the next few years.
Even the 911 models with its venerable NA engine history will be going all turbo in the next generation except for the GT3 RS.
Yea the esflow is supposed to be the inspiration for some production vehicles. Given the size, proportions and Nissan's lineup it makes sense the Z might be prime candidate.
Personally i dont really like it. Funny they call it esflow because to me it does not flow at all...
Shared platform like @Ranma said is definitely one good option especially if they're going to make the entry level sports coupe like the idx concepts. They could also partner up with some other company to develop a platform like Toyota did with Subaru for the FR-S and they're doing with BMW for...
The Z line has always been pretty light and sporty no?
What does the current 370 weight and how much heavier would a targa top be than a coupe version?
Can they really not sella V6 engined Z car in Europe? this is not some crazy gas guzzling 6.2L v8. I know taxes and emissions penalty issues is a concern there but there are plenty of V6's in Europe no?
I agree that Nissan needs a 2+2 sports car to compete with the likes of the toyota twins and the pony cars. They might not be that comfortable but trust me people use them and many will not shop for pure two seat sports cars. I know for me personally I never considered a vette for that reason...
Yeap Palmer left and there is no saying this will be the rumored Z35. But it is good to hear that Nissan is considering multiple RWD sports coupes.
I think they can make a real splash with that lineup. Imagine a GT-R halo at +100K, Z35 at around 50K, and a budget Datsun 510 remake at 20-30K.
