Anyone's guess probably. The only timing we know about the Z35 is the concept will be shown in October. But prototypes could start hitting public roads anytime - before or after the concept.
Great news! but woa pump the brakes, 50k^^? Even a fully decked out muscle car doesn't get you that high. Now a 500+HP hybrid I can see reaching that price but if they are utilizing existing tech and 3.0L TTV6 I would hope it's no more than low 40's max.
I agree with you it seems like 2018 is...
Yea at least we'll get some idea of the type of power it should be capable of. A little backwards as we have no idea what the next Z will be, even those crossover rumors were running wild for a bit.
Good article thanks for posting. So far they just have images to go off of, looking forward to seeing the aftermarket actually get their hands on one to play with with the understanding of what this could mean for the Z lineup.
Sounds like we're already starting to see a carbon fiber revolution. Once costs for producing it drops, more companies will be able to use to make their cars lighter, which equals more performance without actually having to increase power.
I would be VERY surprised (pleasantly so) if it is still on the table for 17MY. Typically you would already have seen some hints of it in a concept, spy photos, patent sketches etc. Base 3.7 and 3.0L TT as the higher trim would be great though. Actually wouldn't mind the 4 cylinder base if it...
You bring up a good point. Everyone's always screaming for lighter lighter cars just by habit. No doubt the Z35 would be a better performer the lighter it is but the 370z always weighs as light as 3,278 pounds. With today's safety equipment standards you're not going to drop below 3,000 pounds...
The 4 cyl outperforms the 6 which is naturally aspirated on the Mustang i think? I'd love to see a turbo 6, with 300+ hp and a much lighter chassis than the mustang, it could give the V8 a run for its money.
And it's still presented as a "concept" so we know it's not going to be released until later this year at earliest, and it'll be sold for at least a year after that, so it looks like no Z35 for the 2016 calendar year.
It's a nice looking car though. Always loved the hard tonneau cover humps...
Turbo lag is pretty minimal in modern day turbos and exhaust sound can be fixed easily with the aftermarket. Some of the Fiat 500 Abarth ones sound really good not just for a 4 cylinder but in general.
I'm not sure why everyone is so turned off by it. Turbo 4's are a ton of fun if you've ever driven one. Lighter, better weight distribution, nice torque band and better mpg's. If you want more HP just get a tune. What is not to like?
Maybe they will be taking the Z down market? Not sub 20K but more entry level around 25-30K sports car? I think they need to start competing more on price with all of the offerings out there.
Commercial just aired. Looks like the GT-R le mans race car and the new Maxima. :(
Back of the Maxima looks nice but don't like that front... pretty busy.
The 370Z was introduced on Dec. 30 2008. The 7 year mark is about when most car's get redesigned for the next generation, but I'm surprised they let it go this long given how poor sales are.
The Z will never be able to compete with the likes of the Mustang on price. The $ per HP will always be in their favor but Nissan can offer better styling, better interior, and more refinement. That's where it should be a selling point. Still can't be too underpowered though.
Honestly a good idea. More engines choices = more sales = continued making of the Z. But don't look forward to the infighting that's gonna happen between different sized engine owners.
