Another question I have is the engine light is on while I am driving. I am not sure if the engine light suppose to be on after the ECUTEK installation???

I am waiting for Z1 Motorsports to response back to me about the engine light after the ECUTEK installation.

If you don't have catalytic converters your CEL will be on. But for a level 1 off the shelf tune from z1 you shouldn't have any CEL

Haven't bought the kit because I already have many of the components from SPL. Bergers JB4 seems like a better option than the hotbox but it does cost more. When it comes to exhaust I'll be throwing on a 3" system from AWE. CAI you night want to look at the Z1 option. They have some on clearance, very little scratches from shipping unless they've already sold. The Nismo CAI were also in their clearance section a while back or possibly on sale somewhere else.

If you are going to have a street only Z and the Z1 kit is within your budget I'd say go for it. Just when things go to the track level I'd be wary of some of their suspension components (bad rep on 350z and 370z forums). That said, I have heard name of their items have improved, and their new R-Pro coilovers are from Feal - great company and great coils

For me, it's mainly for some spirited driving here and there; I'm not really a track person. I just liked the idea of upgrading the exhaust because the OEM setup looked a little frail compared to some aftermarket options. Plus, a safe little bump in power is always a nice bonus, lol.

I'll keep searching, but I plan to pull the trigger soon and will definitely share my personal experience with the package once I do.

While you are waiting for a response, you can do a couples things yourself.

You can read the error code (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) by selecting the “OBD readiness” menu and the “DTC Tool”. With the DTC Tool you can see the DTC number and also clear all DTCs.

its maybe from switching between maps. Select the map you want to run, then clear the DTC codes and the check engine will go off. If light comes back on, post the DTC number.

no mods at the this point right? No mods, then you should not have any error codes. But its common to throw a code when switching between maps.

You do not need to connect or even keep the OBD connector connected. They are just tools used to flash a ROM file for your ECU. It works afterwards without being plugged in or connected.

I would assume low boost would be idea for continuing to break I'm the vehicle if less than 1,500 miles on the engine. Other than that, no real need. I believe there is a valet map or low power map. Not sure if z1 does that for their off the shelf flash though. That would be the only other reason I could see it being needed.

No - the ECU connect interface is just for communication / programming / data logging. The car will run without the interface and iphone. With that said, I would recommend leaving the interface plugged in the ODB port. No need to open the phone app unless you want info, make changes or use any of the app features.

That's great to hear! Because if my phone is lost, damaged or out of battery, I can't drive home with the Z. Talk about a useless product. LOL!

Since I bought the ecutek, I have replaced 3 pairs of back tires. LOL!

The ecutek is running very smoothly so far. I am planning on either getting wider wheels to 11" or get wider tires to a 305/35R19s for the back. Need more grip for the extra horsepower.

I don't think any of these tunes on the Z are best for a track day. If you are increasing power for some 1/4 miles times, sure. However, in my years of doing track days, the most important things are tires, brakes and handling, increasing power on the Z which already has plenty of it, will not make for a better track time in most cases, (unless all you have maxed out your lap times with suspension etc.) and I would not push a ECUTEK tuned car, or a piggyback tuned car on a track day. Most of the people who are doing tunning are doing it for spirited street driving etc.

I have to agree with this and have shared the same experience over the years of tracking (not drag racing) turbocharged vehicles with the stock hardware. Sometimes the extra power doesn't offset the detrimental effects caused by the additional heat a stock turbo/s produce when pushed near or beyond its efficieny threshold for an extended period of time. Stillen has a good writeup and analysis of the honeywell turbos used on the VR30ddtt.

My current assessment of the Z is that the feel of the car is substantiallly improved by dropping some weight. I just currently installed an agm battery out of a miata my neighbor gave me and installed a Cobra Nogaro drivers seat with a bride bracket since my sport seat sat a tad high for me at 6'4. I'm well on my way to 3,250lbs for a 200lb reduction.
