I had lunch at Rubio's today, and the kid that took my order asked, "Is that a 400Z?"

I have to confess that my first reaction was: Huh? I had just ordered a Fish Taco Especial, and I wasn't even thinking about cars. After I figured out what he was talking about, I said, Yeah. I didn't see any point in trying to correct him, and then we had a nice conversation about it.

I wonder if we should start a new poll: which came first for you Z owners?
  • You see another Z in the wild.
  • Somebody asks you about your 400Z

lol someone asked about my “400Z”. I still haven’t seen another Z other than the one I became friends with through this very forum.

I think most people will say "Z" without specifying which one when just talking about it. I am sure people with a 350z, 370z... etc. All heard "Hey! Cool Z!" before.

If someone calls it a 400Z that's fine IMO. It just means it's the current Z I suppose.

I only correct people when they ask me "is that the 400z?". Otherwise I nod my head and never say 400z. It's particularly irritating when Z enthusiasts call it "400z" because they of all people should know the naming convention Nissan has been using for the Z's.

Mine is only one of two I've seen of the new model on the road in central Arizona. People can call it whatever they want. There's literally nothing else like it on the road every day when I commute to work.

Out running errands today:
  • At the gas station, person walks by and says, "I like your Z." Me: "Thanks!"
  • At the bank, person asks "Is that a new 350Z?" Me: "They removed the number." Them: "Oh, so it's just the Z? Looks nice." Me: "Thanks!"
So I'm going to say: No, not forever the 400Z.

At least they still know its a Z.

One thing that is hard to do though is when looking online when googling / youtubing... etc. What do you search for?

For example recently I was searching to find out how to take out the center console and search "New Nissan Z center console removal" Tons of videos and such about the 350/70Z but so hard to find stuff specifically for the new Z when searching.

So I asked here and someone had a youtube video they provided. Which is awesome but I am annoyed I couldn't find the video myself.

sometimes I wish nissan would have just came up with a better name than just the Z.

heck most people I knew that owned any model always referred to theirs as a Z as I did my 350z when i owned one...

I totally agree. Even the "car guys" in the office were confused when I explained the naming. One still calls it the 400.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, because of the whole displacement thing, but I think 400Z would have been a fine name, even if it breaks with tradition.

I've been asked if it's the new GTR more times than I've been asked if it's a 400z. The most common solicitation I get is simply, "I love your car. What is it?".
