Stillen says 70 bhp and 86 wtq, depending on altitude and fuel. Because they're in California, they ran these numbers using 91 octane, so expect a few more houses from 93.

I've been noticing a lot of TruControl and Hotbox owners who complain about issues with the engine performance and health on the FB forums. I think I know why this is happening.

Z1 and Stillen should've explained that in order to get great CONSISTENT performance from these units you NEED to have an upgraded Heat Exchanger!!

There's a reason I don't run Map7 on my car but now that I have the CZP Heat Exchanger I will give it a try. It works amazing with the mid maps(4/5) with the upgraded h/x in very humid 90+ degree F temps in Georgia.

And most of the people complaining of issues are those with the stock h/x during summer time horrific temperatures.

So to those that don't have issues what Map are you using? Do you have a upgraded h/x?

Nothing you posted is correct according to Stillen and their advertisement or video explaining this product. I have no mods besides exhaust. I've been on map 7 since 1200 miles and currently approaching 10k miles. No issues, no complaints.

Are you on the FB forums? Do yourself a favor and check them out and you will see what I mean. You may be an anomaly but many people are complaining about issues using the unit, especially at Map 7. But think about it logically? If you're running more boost and power you will also need more COOLING to offset the increase in the other two. It's basic science.

Being in Houston, he is absolutely heat-soaking his heat exchanger. Heck, I was when bone stock before any mods at all.

Ok Gang!…. I’ll chime-in! Just let me set my walker aside and climb on the soap-box!

The operating temperature and cumulative effects of add-ons, including electronic mods deserve an in-depth analysis. It should be an individual choice as to how best protect your investment and the longevity of the VR30TTDD (Track, Autocross, Daily driving w spirited moments, Drifting, etc..) IMO, for long term reliability and peak performance, I suggest you invest time learning about options in lubrication (if not done so already,) …the impact on the overall areas of concern while considering intallation of specific mods, especially their effect on lubrication and temperature on Turbos. Enjoy the ongoing debate concerning Motul vs Amsoil and the new Gen of European synthetics. Compare the oil chemistry’s (formulation pros and cons on your specific mod set-up.... potential ill effects on each of your engine components. Again, should be a personal/ individual assessment on your engine. Not all factors are as critical for every engine set-up (bolt-on) and driving applications (your individual modifications started while driving at day-one, ie fuel selection, break-in parameters, etc.) For my engine (as a daily driver), the objective would be to minimize surprises, maximize performance, and extend the operational life as economically feasible; of course, while maintaining robust performance parameters.! I believe there is a "YouTube" video from an individual (with adequate credentials) that documents a comparison study on high-performance oils. I’ll see if I can find the link and post it at a later time; meanwhile, you could search for a tag with “Motul vs Amsoil” and perhaps the “Oil Guy” in the search line…. If I recall correctly, he compares 7 high-performance brand formulations using a high performance engine on a test bench/dyno setup.

Oh …oh! I see how it seems that I have drifted (again) onto an irrelevant subject!!! Ok, let me sip on my Ensure Plus before depositing another 2 cents!

Well, basically what I’m alluding to in the previous post… is that regardless of what the mod appears to do for your engine set-up, one should consider the ultimate effect on operating temperatures…. Heat is the “Number One Enemy” and friction is inevitable on the engine’s moving parts. Each component should contribute to the overall performance in a positive manner (one would hope) nonetheless, there is always a negative effect (action/reaction law of physics) and the engine’s overall operating limiting factor is the HEAT! An engine may tolerate high temps to the design limits…. But it may also have a negative effect on the life cycles/ longevity of each critical component. Therefore, the cooling system, especially oil formulation is a paramount variable in the performance/health equation!!!

I believe that none of the Z owners in the forum, have a VR30DDTT that survived/surpassed 50K miles …. stock or otherwise! If so, please share your experience(s) and words of wisdom…. Lessons learned.

They complain about weird throttle issue, the car sometimes having issues with starting after a drive, the engine overall acting weird. I saw one guy who said any Map above 4 or 5 causes the engine to feel horrible but I think that motor was heat soaked because he didn't have an upgraded h/x
