Misha roasted the Nissan Z

Not much needs to be said about Misha’s input on the Performance Z it’s just a GT car that wants to kill you.

I haven’t seen him roast a car like this in a long time… quite embarrassing for Nissan the amount of exposure this will get is crazy, how you put a garbage suspension, brakes and tyres in a 85k AUD car is beyond me.

If it wasn’t for Z Nismo I wouldn’t ever consider a Z, that’s my personal opinion not a piss take on anyone, how embarrassing is it to have no brakes midway through the Nurburgring and see a driver with that much Nurburgring experience go 40km/h slower because he doesn’t trust the car at all..!?

I just now became interested in the Z because NISMO has a manual. Previously I viewed it as just a commuter car with good looks. V6 mustang, basically. Soft suspension, ho-hum power, sexy lines. I am not surprised it let him down. I'd really like to see him try a Nismo.

I have to be honest, this thread really has me torn up. I could barely make eye contact with my Z when I walked by it in the garage this morning. It’s so embarrassing, all this time, I had no idea how bad this car was. I’m seriously considering selling the Z and buying a Yaris so I can have a real sports car.

I do know that I sold my 2012 Sport/Touring because the suspension was so horrific. I am hoping this gen Nismo got it right.

In stock form its a fun street GT style sports car. It's not a track car. It can be made into a great track car relatively easily though, that's kinda the magic with these cars.

I know I'm in the honeymoon period still, but I couldn't care less what the car does at the Ring. I also wouldn't trade it for a G86, or a GR Corolla, etc. ever. It's infinitely more timeless to me than those (or the Supra for that matter, which for the record, I adore, but I do not think it looks good).

I also know if I wanted to take it to a track, I could make it much, much better. I also know I will never take it to a track, like... ever. I will drive it through the mountains and on the highway and around Charlotte, where for SURE I appreciate the softer springs.

Now, with that said, I am definitely going to put better tires on it when these are gone. And I will almost certainly put different dampers on and some beefier antisway bars to flatten it out, but I do not want to mess with the street compliance much at all. Much like people on here are saying "why would you take the Performance to the Ring and not the Nismo?" I am saying "Why would try to turn my car into a track monster and then spend 99 percent of my time driving around Charlotte and getting beaten to death on city streets?"

I've had some fun cars in the past, and I've modded several, but I wouldn't have taken my Hellcat Challenger to a road course, nor would I have drag raced a Miata. I had fun with my two Corvettes I had, but never put them anywhere dicier than the Appalachian mountains. I also have driven a Supra several times recently, which is objectively a more advanced car. It's faster pretty much anywhere than my Z, but I do not like driving it nearly as much as my Z. That's what matters to me. I'm not racing for pink slips in it.

Seemed like more of a review of an OEMs poor choice in brake pads and tires, both of which are often the first thing changed by someone planning to track a car.

Only car I ever took to an open course nearly stock was my '03 Evo VIII. It easily ran 20 minute NASA HPDE sessions at full boil, but even then race pads and slicks would have made it even more capable.

It has taken springs, swaybars, and tires to get my Z close to my old '21 Supra in handling, but it is very capable and has a big aftermarket to make it whatever you want.

It is fun, I feel good driving it, and I never walk away without turning around to look back at it. Don't need much more than that. Really don't give a rodent posterior what a 'ring expert thinks about it.

If anyone thinks those cars are more track-ready, they're delusional.

Gr86 = Oil starvation issue you must solve for, same brake issues (knockback, burning boots, fade), RTV sealant clogging issue - just a known problem of the car I wouldn't track without mitigating, needs a dedicated oil cooler, fuel starvation on left-hand high G, even at 3/4 tank.

Gr Corolla = The rear diff clutch packs overheat causing it to become a FWD car. Oil cooler. Transfer case. Radiator.
I also hear the GRMN didn't solve the issue, but it ships with Cup 2s. We'll see

But I know with just a FEW critical upgrades - brakes, sways, springs/coilovers AND proper alignment - the RZ34 will wake up! It is what it is to begin with, poorly spec'ed as factory delivered. Should at least put some of the Nismo bits on it, will be night and day difference. And the power is more than enough for most, plus Nissan 'bones' and heritage are excellent.

Check out advance 7447 on YouTube, he tracks the Z and has lapped a sub minute at Tsukuba circuit with mild modifications, the RZ34 chassis is really something special, Shibatire also has these laps available to view and from there can compare to and which.

Why, Misha’s always mention that stock Gtr’s can’t make it a lap either, the ring is a different beast altogether
