I have been thinking hard about this as an alternative

1680648649910.png

Pros:
Faster
Extra seats
GTR is my dream car
Automatic only
Still looks amazing and will turn as many heads as a new Z
Red
I would then have the big boy Nissan and its little brother

Cons:
It's an old car
more kms, unkown history
another $13K or so more
not a Z

It’s a beauty…but, 15 years is a lot of time to be abused in some sort of way….and hate to tell you, it’s more than 13k more because it excludes gov charges, so there will be at least another 2-3k on top

Oh I went down that rabbit hole prior to ordering as well.
so not sure what on raod costs involved in NSW but in VIc that makes it nearly 23K more than a Z

these are also grey imports so you wont have readable service history
and look at pics like the dash with Japanese writing on warnings.

imports are also known for having Odo rolled back, so you would want to see the papers from Japan.

if you wanted to go down that path importing yourself rather than buying one here is much cheaper:

Agreed. Nobody buys a GTR to have it on weekend fun. 15 years of abuse lol

If you can, buy new or skip. I can’t buy a used sports car ever. Who knows what the previous owner(s) have done.

but If you can’t buy new, then try to get to new as possible.

I can't imagine many GTR owners are capable of pushing it anywhere near it's limits. Lack of servicing or dodgy repairs is the very worst case scenario but I wouldn't sweat at buying a well maintained enthusiast car of this calibre.

exactlly this, service history and a good inspection by some-one who really knows the cars and you can find some gems out there.

they are not going to be the cheapest in the country however...

I agree…the problem is, you don’t know who the owners have been. Are they enthusiast …or are they rev head punishers

That’s the problem with 2nd hand…simple do not know, and as much as an inspection can help it’s not 100% …not by a long way unfortunately

I guess what I'm saying is sure, for a used 4x4 that's potentially been driven through the ocean but GTRs are designed and built for rev-head punishment! I'd almost prefer one that's been tracked for the meticulous maintenance that often goes with it.

Are you going to get it tuned as well?
Not at the same time but I think I will afterwards. There is another place in Sydney that does Dyno + Ecutek tune for just under $2k. Does that sound reasonable? I haven't put a car on the dyno before.

I rang to check status today and was told I had moved up the dealer list to the next blue manual that they get in, but who knows how long that will be. While we were talking asked if I was interested in a gun metallic manual that they had coming, the Z does look good in this colour but its also the same as my Qashqai. I figure as we are pay 80k plus we might as well get the colour we like.
I think some larger dealers are getting some extra cars that somehow are unallocated to orders this may be due to shipping/logistic issues and cancelled orders, who knows what Nissan Australia is doing
