I also wanted to say thanks to this forum. I appreciate the advice from folks and learning from other forum members experiences with the Z and other cars.

I'll update when I know more. I'm sure they'll fix it, and it will be interesting to hear what the problem is.

You're welcome. One of the benefits of internet forums. Thanks for reporting it here and to the Feds and keeping us all updated. Again, sorry you're having this issue. They should be able to EVENTUALLY find and fix it. Definitely NOT a problem anyone can live with.

Well, my car is a 23 with 13k miles.

I think @TheMarkedOne's Z is a 24. Not sure the miles.

I wouldn't expect failure here to be specific to time or milage.

Yes. I would expect it to depend upon what the actual cause is for this failure. Hopefully, they can find out but not necessarily. Unfortunately, the priority for Nissan servicing could be just to fix/ replace and move one. We shall see. Hopefully, we'll learn at least enough from bpeckham's experience to be able to keep an eye on certain things for the Z. I'm already inspecting that area identified in the earlier posted video when I check my oil level.

I went through the Q50 and Q60 on NHTSA. Some years had A LOT of complaints, so I filtered by "fuel/propulsion system." Assuming there were no complaints that were miscategorized, I only found one about leaking fuel and smell and it said if was defective fuel injectors.

Update on my case: The car is back from the shop and the problem seems to be resolved. I guess it's not so easy to install the replacement part correctly.

(Interesting that the printout seemed to chop the "cause" data.)

Will definitely keep an eye on this going forward. It seems like a potentially dangerous point of failure.

Sounds like one of those things that needs to done very carefully and very correctly. Hopefully, that will take care of it but I’m sure you’ll be watching it carefully.

Fixing leaks can be a challenge. Of course, hydrogen is a whole different world of challenges but NASA has certainly wrestled with trying to fix leaks with Artemis.

my only question is: when you initially went in for the 3 year service, and they noted the issue - did you tell them about it and had you experienced any smells before? Or did the issue first appear in their possession?

were all your dealer visits covered under warranty?

and last thing for all, always try to request the highest trained most certified tech work on your car. I know we don't all own GTRs but this dealer locater has a filter for GT-R Dealers. could help

Great point. I'm very pleased with my Service Adviser and Tech at my local Nisan dealer. Both are very sharp, well trained, know their stuff, and pleasant to work with. The Service adviser makes sure I'm always assigned their specially trained GT-R tech and he's very familiar with the Z.

I don't know if all Nissan dealers now do this, but my location also keeps me well updated with texts during any servicing with videos from the tech showing my Z, summarizing any servicing and any key points. They're about the most transparent dealer service I've ever used over the decades. So far, they seem to be giving me better service than a Lexus dealer I use now and a Mercedes dealer I used in the past.

I have to admit that during this whole episode, I thought back on the Thursday before the tech discovered the fuel leak. Did I smell gas before that?

I'm not 100% sure. I asked my wife the same question. We both think there may have been a slight smell, but we're not certain. If it was there, it was nowhere near as bad as it became after the part replacement.

I also admit that I had a slight skepticism that maybe this was some kind of warranty scam. Customer brings in a perfectly fine car. Tech "finds" a problem. Shop bills Nissan for the warranty fix.

To me, I think this isn't the case, for two reasons: (1) another forum member had a similar (but much worse) issue with the exact same part number, and (2) a warranty scam would probably be much more risky than it's worth.

I used to take my cars to a mom-n-pop independent mechanic for service. They were awesome. She was really into cars, and he did a great job. Unfortunately he retired shortly after I bought my Z, and I haven't found a suitable replacement.

If so, wondering if they actually replaced it the first time, or assumed it was the connection leaking, not a joint, and put the original part back on. Based on its design, I can see where removing it and reinstalling would stress a part that already has weaknesses/flaws ("allegedly," I'll say at this point).

Forgot to answer this. Yes, the fuel line repair and re-repair was covered under warranty, which expires at the end of April 2026.

In the first repair they replaced the part. I think I mentioned which part it is earlier in the thread and it was the same part number as the other thread.

Of course I cad to go look - the right side rail seems to be leaking again- left side clean and no residue.

1. Bypass hood poppers & remove: 2 Ohm resistor
2. Bypass oil control solenoid and remove: 25 Ohm resistor

…can someone Ohm out their high pressure fuel line to see what resistor is needed to bypass that too?
