Actually did not realize the Fairlady comes with a much more powerful, larger engine VR38. But I’m quite satisfied with the VR30 in my Performance. Quick and fast enough for me!
Truth... I've gotten air in mine a couple times... and that wasn't even wailing on it. Light little demon.... I can't imagine having more power and not spontaneously going "off-course" just going to work.

But Does It Djent?

I regret that due to life stuff I probably won't be able to get a Z until a used sport trim is sub $30k. Big sad :( Hopefully that will happen within the next year two

Wait... I'm confused... I thought the FairLady was just a model of the same car?

not sure if I mis-read or ‘internet article’ (which I can’t find now) thought I saw the 3.8L TT offered in GT-R, Infiniti Q-80 & Fairlady. maybe I’m mistaken, if so honest error.

Hmmm, I had a Q60. In other markets it was called a "Fairlady". So were the G35 and G37 variants. In recent times, Nissan applied the Fairlady name to variants of the FM platform. None were any hotter than having the 400hp VR30 engine.
The VR38 has only been available in the recent GT-R. Except for the rare Juke.

It is true that the VR30, new VR35 and the VR38 are related.

Is the AT good in this car? I am thinking of a Sport AT? I had an AT 350z convertible which I hated the transmission. Test drove the 2023 manual Z last year.
The 9 speed is fine but not amazing. I like that I get over 30mpg on road trips, but otherwise it needs better tuning. Non-sport mode could have softer shifts. Sport mode could hold onto lower gears for longer. Manual mode has too much lag to offer any precision. No option to rev it in neutral kills some fun too.

As for the original post question - I generally pick my Miata for fun/leisure. The Z is nice for blasting past terrible drivers on the highway, so I daily it. My happiness with the Z ebbs and flows, and I often think I could have made a smarter choice. When I get home from a work trip, I do enjoy the drive back from the airport. The minor gripes I have with the car pester me when I'm driving a lot but are easily forgotten when I take a break from it. Just passed 15k miles with less than a year of ownership.

I picked my new Z up on Saturday, dealer discounted it nearly $7k. Overall, I like it, but do miss some features from the Mustang I traded in. Heated steering wheel, magnetic ride, dual mode exhaust, and B&O sound system will be missed. I am surprised that at the price point, the Z is lacking auto bright lights and auto windshield wipers. I am also disappointed with Nissan for shortchanging the trunk area. There is a large volume of wasted space filled with Styrofoam. Could have offered a nice hidden storage compartment since everything is exposed through rear glass. It does remind me of the 2007 BMW M coupe I had.

Congrats, nice buy! Dealers are discounting quite a bit now, easily under $50K in many areas. It's still desirable IMO in that it's one of the last analog Zs you can get, if not the final gen with Nissan's situation. I've been a Z fan for years, so still hanging on.
I also had a Mustang GT PP2 which had many more 'performance' features - Brembos, Recaros, magneride, dual mode exhaust, etc - and Sport, Track settings, back then comparatively priced against the Z. But I sold the Stang because it's too wide and big for my liking. The Z is still nimbler overall.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with this, unless you can cite where Fairaldy was used elsewhere by Nissan?
I believe Fairlady was used only on the Z cars.

As for me, no regrets. The launch was a shit fight. No cars, now too many cars and Nissan are just making more special additions to boost sales.
I've kept my 370z too.

Oops, I'm getting old.

You're correct, I forgot, I was thinking of Skyline.

The Performance has auto Bright/Dim lights. But I found out how to turn that crap off, just like the 'auto cruise control' that slows the car down. So tired of the automatic-everything, sheeesh!

Yes, after you responded I looked in the owner's manual and saw it does have it. However, driving home in the dark the other day they did not come on. Which is why I was thinking it did not. The manual did list a bunch of situations where they would not come on, so that may be the issue.

I've noticed that the Z is pretty hesitant to turn on the high beams in auto mode. Not at all like all the Teslas in my neighborhood that burn my retinas when I walk the dog at night.
