I know this is an old-ish thread but my 2024 Performance A/T does the same lurching people are talking about here. It's very random and I go some days without it happening at all and some days it happens multiple times. MFG Date: 9/2023.

I can confirm my 2022 Frontier with a 9 A/T did the same exact thing for the first few hundred miles but hasn't done it in about 2 years now (almost 20k miles now)

My Z has about 950 miles on it. Hoping it's just something that will work it's way out like my Frontier seemed to do.

I'm at 2300 miles. Mine has done it more frequently the last two times I've driven it than ever before. Frustrating.

That sucks. I really hope they figure it out and have a fix for it at some point.

I can confirm that as time has gone on, the Z has done the A/T jerk less often. Now at over 30,000 miles driven, I've noticed it once, and I drive almost everyday. Maybe it's a break-in thing? I'm not sure how long it will take for the cars that will stay low mileage tho.

My AT Performance does it when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear in auto drive mode. Its not a jerky motion but a steep drop in torque but I got used to it and use the brake/throttle accordingly as I expect it.

Hey guys, I know that this thread is a little bit old but. I notice the same behaviour of lurching when the car is close to stop.
I read in other forum (https://www.newnissanz.com/threads/z-jerking-nearly-any-stops.2317/) that this was solved with a software update, But it doesn't give details other that the lurching was solved. So I visited the web page of nissan to check if there was a recall, and search for the VIN number and this said that there was not recalls for my vehicle. So I googled some releated words with recalls and service bulletins and luckly I found a page, that looks legit (not 100% sure) that if pay and you get subscribed, you can access to files of Service bulletins and recalls from nissan (https://www.nissan-techinfo.com/TSB/TSB_xml/nmIndex.aspx).
Fortunately this allowed me to search for this service bulletins. So I used the code of the recall and google it and I found this other web page (https://nissan.oemdtc.com/1248/ntb22-083-tcm-reprogram-2023-nissan-z) that indeed says that there is a "voluntary recall campaign" for reprogramming the Transmission Control Module (TCM). If you visit that web page and scroll down, you will be able to download the pdf with the campaing.
Below you can find screenshots of the web pages that i visited and the PDF
Unfortunely due to work I wont be able to check this with the dealership and also in Mexico the service of mechanincs of dealerships kind of sucks so I hope this info helps next time you send your Z for service and find out if this reprogramming of TCM solves the lurching issue.

I don’t think the Nissan 9AT does the downshift thunk less over time. I think we get used to it. I don’t notice and don’t care anymore. It’s a great transmission and cars with character do these kinds of things. All of them have quirks or it’s just another Camry or some other POS boring car.

Best is to bring it to Nissan dealer and log a complaint. Dealers get special bulletins which are not published publicly. It’s covered under warranty then why guess.

My 2024 Nismo did it about once every 3rd or 4th drive when it was new. It lurched when it shifted from 2nd gear to 1st. It happened more if I was slowing down very gradually as I approached a red light. It felt like I was getting rear ended sometimes. It scared me quite a few times.
As I added miles on the car, it seemed to do it less. At about 4,000 miles, it seemed to stop doing it completely. I now have about 5,900 miles, and I can't remember the last time it did it. So maybe it actually is a break in thing as others have said.

Never had this lurching thing.
But the transmission is very snappy for me now, no lag on any shifts now. I really want to try the zf 8 to compare cuz it seems really similar

As others have experienced and I can now confirm (with my car anyways) as was with my Frontier, the Z rarely does it anymore. It does still happen but not that often at all anymore.

Just checking in to see if this is still an issue. I pretty much only drive in manual mode, but on the occasion I do feel lazy and leave it in auto, the issue seems resolved. However, I have an aftermarket fuel system, and fully tuned. Software and LPFP seem to be the things being pointed at and mine are both aftermarket now.

I too don't experience lurching as much anymore, except sometimes going from 2nd to 1st in D mode, but I think for me at least at this point I just know the transmission well enough to use throttle in a way that I just know when the shifts will happen to prevent any hard lurching.🤷

I haven't felt it in a really long time either
