I have 2000 miles on my Proto, and haven’t experiencing lurching yet. I know my car was part of the initial batch that was subject to a factory-mandated dealer fix before it could actually be sold, so I’m wondering if that could have “optimized” the transmission in some wierd way. My biggest transmission gripe is it redlines too fast in 1-2nd gears, in particular.

Mine does this. Seems to be the 2-1 downshift when going very slow. Almost never notice it if I downshift manually at a bit higher RPMS than when it tries to do it in auto. It is quite annoying but I am hoping it is the car learning shift points. If not at least we have a warranty for a few years.

Mine’s been doing the lurching stop too. It’s totally random and super annoying. You don’t want to stop too close to anyone or else you could lurch right into their bumper. I took it into the shop but I got the dreaded “our technician couldn’t replicate the described issue. Call us if you continue to experience this.” 🙄

I feared lurching into someone in front of me as well. I kept a good distance away when stopping. I dropped mine off at the dealer Friday. On the way to the dealer it did not lurch one time! I almost turned around and took it back home! They gave me a loaner and listened to my thorough description. I told them about others here on the forum having the same trouble. They said they would properly research it and see if there were service bulletins yet. Sure seems like they are eager to get it fixed properly.

I imagine if i took it to my dealership they'd do everything they can to figure it out. They threw a free tire on my old car I had left on the lot for a month just because i was "the Z guy"

This sounds promising. There's probably a good amount of prestige on the line if they can be the first to figure it out.

Im really thinking this is just a characteristic of the 9AT. Ive paid attention to it the last few days after making this thread and I think its just doing a super late downshift to 1st right as it comes to a stop

I picked the Z up this morning. I am happy with my local dealer (Coyle Nissan in Clarksville, IN.) They listened to me, gave me a loaner and did all they could. They said they spoke with the Nissan rep and he had heard of the problem but there is no fix yet. We are going to check on it again in a couple months at the first oil change. Like MCN1SMO said above, it’s probably a characteristic of the transmission maybe even across Nissan models. I can jam on the brake when stopping and keep it from happening. That is just not what I expected out of this car.

Does anyone experiencing the lurch when coming to a stop also have any rough starts when you start from a stop, like at a red light?

I wouldnt call it a rough start but in my experience with the 9AT the throttle isnt very sensitive from that initial start where you have to give it a bit more pedal input than you might expect

That's good. I'm being extra careful since Progressive is watching what I'm doing, so hopefully I can figure it out with more time driving. Thanks. :)

I agree with a numb feeling throttle in easy starts. I think not having a sensitive throttle from a stop makes the transmission sometime feel notchy or like its is slightly jerking. This happens with easy starts and shifts from 1-2, 2-3. Both issues are more noticeable in stop and go traffic. Faster starts are more fun and feel much more refined. Hard stops keep the lurching problem from being noticeable. The Z probably just needs to be driven like a good sports car wants to be.

I get the transmission thump when I slow roll to a stop over a long distance. What's strange is that it doesn't do it when I use adaptive cruise control behind someone who slow rolls to a stop.

I do get a thump if I pull up somewhere and then immediately put it in Park. My theory is that normally it goes to 1st gear after we've stopped completely, but doesn't know what to do if it reads "too slow to be moving" and just shifts it anyway. Putting it in Park immediately just parks it from 2nd gear. I'll try the same but immediately turn the car off without putting in Park first.
