Hello,
My 2025 Z first oil change was at 1,450 miles using Nissan 0W-20 full synthetic. At about 3,500 miles it became noticeably rough when accelerating so I've decided to change oil yesterday at 3,750 using Mobil 1 0W-20 full synthetic.
When I drained the oil it came out very dirty, completely black, only after 2,300 miles.
Is that normal?

When I test drove it after the 2nd oil change, acceleration was surprisingly quick and smooth.
Not sure why the first oil change got so dirty so fast and affected acceleration.
Do I have to changed oil every 2,300 miles to keep the engine clean.
Now that raised a concern about changing oil every 10K miles or even after 5K miles.
Your thoughts please.
Thanks

Send a sample to Blackstone Labs?

Talk to the dealership?

(And somewhere there is a thread re: 5w30 vs 0w20, or something like that.)

I've gone down that rabbit hole of 0w20 v. 5w30, interesting.

I also, up until recently, became aware of what group 3, 4 and 5 synthetic oil means.

At 1200 miles I replaced my break in oil as well with Castrol Edge 0w20 but felt like the motor wasn't feeling smooth so I replaced that oil at 4800 miles(3600 miles of use) with Amsoil SS 0w30. I'm only putting Group 4/5 oils in the VR30 every 5k miles from now on.

New engines will contaminate oil fairly rapidly as they wear-in, this is why break-in oil changes are important, along with running filters with the correct bypass pressure (the stock Z filter runs at a higher bypass pressure than most). After these first two changes of yours, you should be good at 5k mile intervals from here on out assuming you're using quality synthetic oil and a factory Nissan 15208-65F1B/E oil filter.

Interesting to note.

ExxonMobil
is the primary manufacturer and preferred supplier for
Nissan Genuine 0W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil
in North America. This partnership, established in 2010, designates ExxonMobil as the supplier for aftermarket engine oils used across Nissan and Infiniti dealer service networks

Also, dealer service will apparently use Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic, if desired.

Yes, I use Mobil 1 0W-20 full synthetic and Nissan oil filter 15208-65F1B made in Japan.
I'll change oil again after 2K miles then every 5K miles going forward.
Thank you

Those B's are getting tough to come by; there are still a few sellers on eBay with them! I stockpiled a few...but I'm honestly pretty impressed with the Made in Mexico "E" version as well.

just did my 3rd change at 6K miles. I did the break in change at 1200 then did another at about 4K miles but then went a full year and changed it at 6100 this week. I used the OEM 0W-20 and the NISMO filter.

I got few of both. I got the E's first thinking that I ordered the B's then found a local dealer that has the B' and bought a bunch of it. I'll try the E at my next oil change.

Is there any concerns in using the Nismo oil filter on the performance?
Did you fell a difference between it and the 15208-65F1B?
Thanks

The NISMO oil filter isn't made the the NISMO model it's an aftermarket NISMO part compatible with all Zs. Can't really tell a difference no it's just a high quality filter since I only change the oil once a year going forward it makes sense as it's like a $40 filter

I’m ending up doing something similar with my Sport. Break in oil and filter was changed at 1200 miles, Nissan 0W-20 and recommended filter. I’m following the severe maintenance schedule, since I do a lot of stop-n-go, local short trips, and it’s as hot as Hades here for about a third of the year. I’ll probably end up changing every 6 months, rather than on mileage (every 5K), and will probably be closer to every 4K. Oil and filters are cheap, compared to the hassle of major engine repairs, plus the exorbitant cost after the drivetrain warranty has expired. I’ve always been a fanatic about oil changes with the numerous vehicles I’ve owned and have never had a major engine issue, from rotary Mazdas to Fiats, and beyond.

I'll add something on to this; Use the recommended filter. The recommended Z filter has a high bypass pressure relief. If you have a LOW bypass pressure filter, once oil pressure differential across that relief hits its lift point, oil starts bypassing the filter elements. You still get oil through your bearings, but some amount of it did not pass through the filter elements.

100% accurate!

Bypass pressure matters!
