Has anyone tried it on a 27. After the Youtube visuals on older Zs I am actually hesitant to even try it. Dont care about ruining original but concerned about all the trauma to the shifter rod and the underlying linkage.

It was easy on my '24, can't imagine it's much different on a '27?

Videos and experiences of others suggest that this is a very difficult operation. Apparently most have tons of Loctite on the main bolt. Even with using a rubber strap wrench, it seems destroying the stock knob may be unavoidable. I’d love to put a Billetworkz knob on the 27, but I don’t want to risk damage in the process.

I mean, it was tight, but I removed mine by hand, and I assure you I'm not a Sasquatch. No damage to the stock knob, either.

Stock knob, never removed before, and I removed it by hand. It would have probably been a little easier with a strap wrench, but I was able to get it with minimal profanity.

This is a well known issue

Make sure you have a strap wrench and no regard for the stock knob

Yes, this is why I don't think I'll bother with the swap. Seen nothing but trouble, other than for eabrick--who apparently got quite lucky!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I was disappointed in the looks of (or lack of), the shifter on my Performance model. It is just dull and plain. I mean, Nissan could have at least put a Z on top of it. When all the hype of the 6 speed Nismo came out , I thought well at least Nissan will upgrade the looks of the shift knob to highlight that it’s a Nismo, a premium car. Wrong. Still uninteresting. There are a few places in the interior of this car that could have helped dress it up at a low cost and the shifter is one of them. Remember, the Nismo is $72k!

I was not fortunate enough to hand twist it off. It was bad, even with heat to try and give a little on the loctite.

The knob was not salvageable. At the same time, I replaced the shifter with a Torque Solutions from a Z34. It bolts in and shifting is smoother. Just know, rev hang is no joke with a short shifter. Pic of my setup.
