What DIFFERENTIAL fluid should I fill my NIB diff with to break in the LSD? It will have the Z1 performance diff cover on it.

Hello!
We use Redline (75W90) in our Z

I also used Redline 75W90 or 75W140 in my 370z viscous LSD at the track. If you plan on tracking I would consider the 75-140 else the 75W90 by Redline is very good

I checked into this and found the recommended fluid for the stock Performance LSD is mineral based GL-5. Both Pennzoil and Torco have such products with Torco recommending adding their "type F" friction additive. Probably any GL-5 gear oil will work if it has an LSD clutch friction additive. The important thing is change the fluid as the friction material wears when having fun cornering on throttle. I think the manual says 1 year or 10k miles but I'm going with Torco more often as I like to adjust apexes if you get my drift - pun intended!

My plan is more frequent changes, since partial tracking, about every 3-4k miles with Redline (75W90), have used that plenty times before on LSDs.

Great fluid; that's what's in mine too.

First diff oil and second oil changes, 2,400 miles. Off to Blackstone...she's happy now!

The installers of my 1.5 GT Pro Nismo LSD apparently added friction modifier (BAD) to the Redline fluid mentioned above. We dumped that and put the Nismo/motul fluid in there. Hoping to see some better behavior once I pick it up very soon

Good you caught the added friction modifier. I like to break in the diff clutches by driving figure 8s at 9 - 10 MPH with steady throttle & diff oil at operating temp. Light colored paving will show faint tire marks.

BTW, Nismo makes this LSD for other Nissans and it can be converted to 2-way for drifting turn-in.

I track mine and use a 75w140 by redline. I’ve done oil analysis and it’s fine. The only thing I’m really losing is gas mileage but worth the extra weight when the diff regularly hits 350f out there on track.

Have you compared temps with thinner vs. thicker fluids? Typically, thinner will dissipate heat better.
