2024 OHLINS suspension tuned by NISMO JP (53110‐RPZ45)

Was in the neighborhood so I stopped by the dealership. I gave him the PN, he looked it up and spoke to someone on the phone, and his opinion was it wasn't a good pn. Either he flubbed something up or Nissan USA doesn't even know about it. Assuming he got everything right, it looks like, at least at this point, that the kit is JDM-only. Hopefully more retailers, and some in the US (OHLINS themselves) will sell it. Ohlins hasn't responded to my email.

@OptionZero, that makes complete sense, but some may want the OHLINS/NISMO kit and they may not want to wait. I'm not one of those, just trying to help others out.

I've wondered about the Z34 vs RZ34 coilover compatibility. Unfortunately a lot of the images are generic (aren't for the specific car) and although I haven't gone into full-bore research mode, it appears no one on the manufacturing or sales end of things is selling them as they're good for both 370 and Z. I have seen kits where it would be cheaper to buy the Z34 kit and new springs than the RZ34 kit, but not sure if the valving would be right...at least on the rear, say if you're going from a 7KG to a 12KG. Only thing that looks different on the HKS Hipermax S is the springs (obviously) and the bump stop. Going off their exploded component drawing, so that's not definitive. I do believe the front or rear of the 370 has a bracket on one of the shocks, and if so, probably wouldn't matter on a Z install, and if so, you could cut it off.

Having spoken to Ohlins in NC about motorcycle suspension in the past, they are nice and patient folks.

I looked at Sake Bomb's website. It seems like they are taking Ohlins components and assembling coilovers to their specs for various applications using Ohlins (and other companies) parts.

This is not unusual, it just depends on the quality of the people doing the testing. If they have the test cars on hand, a shock dyno, and the appropriate parts, they are basically doing what Ohlins would do, except they can tailor a build to the customer.

Someone running aero will want a much stiffer setup than someone on stock body, vs someone only doing street, etc.

Sakebomb has a shock dyno. They built my custom ohlins on my Abarth.

I'm also looking for coilovers and torn between kw v3 and the ohlins. I found that ohlins Japan has made the DFV for the RZ34 (https://ohlins-czj.jp/automotive/auto-search/) and found that blackhawkjapan imports them for a fairly reasonable price (https://www.blackhawkjapan.com/products/ohlins-ohlins-00087?_pos=2&_sid=7ffd9b87f&_ss=r).

I've heard nothing but good comments about ohlins over the years and I wanted to get the best of the best for my Z. But buying JDM Ohlins seems too risky on the books to me due to no warrenty and the uncertainty about servicing it within North America.

On top of that, they salt the roads here where I live, from what I heard the Ohlins are not as corrosion resistant as the kw.

I looked at that kit on Black Hawk last night. Not sure about Colorado, but to me, shipping is $330, so it came to just under $2,700 total. Spring rates on it looked good, F10.2K/R11.2K, but the pic shows a true rear. 11.2K on a true rear is too stiff for a 10.2K front. I assume the pic is generic and the kit is divorced rear, but not going to trust an assumption with a ~$3K purchase.

I’m still padding the coffers and and planning, so not ready to pull the trigger yet. Current plan once I’m ready, if Ohlins is still my target, and nothing has becomes more clear, is to call Ohlins USA.

I had an email thread with Ohlins and talked to them on the phone. They originally told me by 4th quarter of last year. Then they couldn’t confirm a new time frame. I asked if it had anything to do with the JDM Nismo Ohlins variant getting in the way somehow and if the USDM version would be the same and he sealed his lips.

Interesting. I have been kind of waiting to see what happens with Ohlins USA first before I just have Sakebomb build me a set of Ohlins. I already spoke with them and they are eager to use my car to test out a Nismo. They already did a set for a regular Z.

I'm pretty sure the pic from black hawk is generic, I found this from a Japanese website where people post and review their mods, and this pic came from an RZ34 with JDM Ohlins

I agree that the spring rates are good since the rear is confirmed to be a divorced setup. Ohlins USA seems to have softer spring rates versus their JDM variant, probably because the roads in Japan are just that much better than those in the USA.

My new wheels are coming Q2/Q3 this year, and I really wanted to get my coilovers ready at the same time. Since Ohlins USA does not have a solid timeframe on when they will release the USDM version, the JDM variant might be my only choice.

True. They are very competent at suspension and brakes. I guess I was mostly curious about what spring rates Nissan is going to use. But does not matter because Sakebomb uses swift springs which I am also a fan of. I have two sets of swift springs for my Ohlins on the Abarth.

For anyone interested in Nismo Ohlins, be advised that they are strictly JDM and can only be purchased and concurrently installed at the Nismo Omori Factory or Nissan Performance Center in Japan. They will not sell them for export at any price.
