Actually as people have said….for a lot of us, this will be our daily drive
I take offence to you saying people are buying it as a “toy”
No, I can only afford one car, a daily drive ….and yes I need one
This reminds me of a story.

I was STARVING one day. I can't remember what day it was, but it was a while back. I had no food in my fridge or pantry. I took my Titan (I needed to change the wheels out on my roller blades and I didn't feel like skating in the rain anyway) to my local Publix approximately 0.8 miles from my driveway to procure sustenance.

I quickly arrived at my local Publix having averaged a stellar 11.8 MPG in traffic. I NEEDED FOOD. I bypassed the deli, snack bar, and produce section and went straight up to the meat counter and encountered a soft spoken gentleman cutting meat who stopped what he was doing to assist me in my endeavors.

"Can I help you, sir?"

I replied, "Where is your Wagyu beef? I do not see any in the case here."

"I'm sorry sir, we currently do not have any Wagyu beef at the moment."

Downtrodden, I replied, "Are you getting any in soon?"

"I'm sorry sir, but with the market the way it is, our supply chains have been severely disrupted. Availability is scarce and we're not sure if we will even get it if it becomes available as pricing has been extremely volatile."

I bristled at his response, however truthful and grounded in reality it might have been at the time.

"How do you not know when you'll get the beef and how much it will be when you do get it? DON'T YOU SEE I'M STARVING TO DEATH?!"

The gentleman, still adopting the mantra of "Where Shopping Is a Pleasure" politely offered me a pair of Manager's Special New York Strip Steaks as consolation for the absence of WHAT I NEEDED in order to help me no longer go hungry.

Genuinely offended, I scoffed at his steaks. "How dare you suggest I eat amongst the peasants?!" I stormed out of the grocery store, still starving.

Later, my then girlfriend arrived with Chinese takeout. I ate the bottom out of that bag.

Sorry to break your bubble, but I don’t currently own a car. I am using my sons I20.
I need to buy a car…unlike the states Australia has crap public transport …especially in WA and has massive distances to cover to get anywhere, both my husband and I live 40 min away by car for work, my sons sport s almost an 45 min away.
Now I can borrow his car…until July this year when he gets his licence and then will need it himself ….so your little story although a nice story….is just that.
If Nissan doesn’t release the car by July, I’ll have to buy elsewhere, because news flash, I need a car, not a toy
Otherwise I will be unable to get to work, to earn the money to buy the Wagyu

i still dont get what the problem is with wanting a "toy" as soon as possible. Life isnt guaranteed, Dont want to die driving a boring car
Nothing's wrong with it. To me, buying a car such as a Z, Zupr4, M2, M4, GT-R, 911, etc. is not a necessity in life for anyone. Whether you're driving it every day, on the weekends, or only on a track, no one really "needs" any of these cars. Even larger, more practical cars like an M5... nobody that I know requires a $100k+ high performance sedan to survive. There's also nothing wrong with wanting any of these cars (well except for the Zupr4, but that's a different story ?).

This is coming from someone who has really only owned cars closer to the "toy" side of the spectrum than the practicality side, and would be a pretty miserable person to be around if I didn't own a car I loved, but I'm not going to suddenly drop dead if you put me in a Mitsubishi Mirage for a while. Having to wait longer, buy something else in the meantime to get by, or settle for a different car altogether are all inconveniences/sacrifices. I get it though, who wants to feel inconvenienced or in the dark when they're willing to spend $40k+ on something?

Main point, if Nissan is intentionally delaying it to have Ariya released first, that would seriously suck.
I don’t believe this to be the case for a second. Nissan are in the business of making money. Intentionally delaying release to honour one lame marketing line from months ago world be truely ridiculous.

Believe me, I hope you are right and my suspicion is wrong.

It is so difficult for a struggling automaker, who just dumped d-bag Ghosn, to build a full-on BEV in this environment. Expensive ass batteries, rare-earth elements.....trade wars, embargoes, geo-political tensions...

Whereas building a Z34.2 super duper easy. If you go back and look at the pre-COVID pandemic marketing from Nissan, they did definitely make it seem that Ariya comes before Z. Hopefully they back down from that, it's way more difficult to bring a BEV to market than a rehashed coupe using all corporate off-the-shelf components.

I asked Dan Passe, it's been 3 weeks, no reply. Of course Nissan won't admit it if that is what they are doing. I bet, people like Dan and anyone working on the new Z would be pissed if corporate stuck to "A before Z".

I have no choice but to wait. But, if the GR-Four Corolla goes up for sale before the new Z, that truly would be a shit outcome for the Z and very tempting for me to jump ship.

This is what irks me, aside from the showings of the same Zs all over the country, still NOTHING, NADA on road tests, performance tests, any testing. Plus Nissan staff has been crickets, what is going on? Are there issues with revealing more of the Z aside from the same old supply chain hang-ups?

Even though, by estimate, an EV has 60% parts by count compared to an ICE vehicle, it has 2-3X more chips on board.
Amid the chip shortage, it is much harder to mass produce an EV than a new Z.
New Z will come first. My bet.

If you go for a GR Corolla then a Z was never priority to begin with…

Seem's you've never met anyone with an automotive attention defecit. I have a friend I met in my local Type R group and in the 2ish years I've known him this is how his car ownership has gone 2018 Type-R>2019 MX5> 2020 Type-R>2019 Mustang GT350>1999 Dodge Viper>2021 Veloster N>2018 HFP Accord Coupe>2022 Model Y Performance, and now he's eyeing a new Golf R. I think I might have even missed one.

It's an extreme example, but I've known a quite a few people who are open to whatever car catches their fancy at the time, as long as its fun. It's not that much of a stretch to go from a Japanese Sportscar to a Japanese Hot Hatch, especially if one might be more readily available or be available sooner.
