Almost got one myself until I spent time on the owners Forums and talked with long time owners in person. On the forums you'll first have to get past the long list of people who filed class action lawsuits. Pretty sure if you read long enough you'll be eligible for anxiety/depression meds. Here's what's crazy. When you talk with long time owners it's another day at the office. They accept the failure rate/cost. It kind of reminded me when I dated strippers. I was told on more than one occasion if you keep the miles off of it, your gtg.
Hahahahahah Golden!!!

Interesting discussion. Opinion based.
Imagine if Nissan put VR38DDTT in the Z. Omg! Many good points brought up.
That guy is shooting off with no valuable direction in mind, just for clickbait. No thanks!

Is that the guy with the 1000+ hp Z33? If so, I’ve seen shorts w/him. He has a lot to say, and seems knowledgeable, but also seems like a Stephen A Smith, someone who likes to hear himself talk…a lot.

It’s hard to take someone seriously that talks about getting a woody over a car. 😬

Let’s say Nissan decided to put a 38VRDETT in a RZ34 chassis, they end up with this:
- Structural issues with the body flexing. They had to beef up the chassis just to take the +20 or so extra hp from the Nismo Z & make it work
- An almost uncontrollable street car for an average driver. Think of the potential lawsuits. - Most insurance companies would class it as a supercar and price accordingly

Would I want one? Hell yes, but I wouldn’t buy one to daily. It would be an occasional use / track car. And you could just build one for the money it would cost. So- how many would Nissan actually sell?

They’re “Instagram tuners.” The only difference between them and Instagram models is they’re ugly. Yes, they know more than I will probably ever know about cars, or specific cars. But just like models, keep your mouth shut show us pics/vids of the pretty stuff (CARS!)
They lost me when they said, ‘if you’re not building to 1,500+ then why bother?’
It’s a pissing match for clicks within that group of dudes and I don’t give a crap.

Ultimately it was the VR30DDTT that caused me to cancel my 2026 Nismo order..
Why? That makes zero sense; it's the best part about the car. Nissan is industry-leading in terms of warranty claim frequency. That's the good thing about tried & trued platforms, powertrains, etc.

Long term reliability IMO is questionable. I have spoken to many owners ... ( some here in in Aus ) that have had more issues than i would be comfortable with.
But , ultimately time will tell.
I just decided it wasn't something i wanted to pursue even though i am a huge Z fan .

Went to the "Dark Side" and purchased a 2026 Toyota GRC ...which after driving the 2025 Z
is a revelation !!

"Toy"..
Interesting ...
The Z is a faster car in a strait line / off the mark...
The GRC is faster ( substantially!!) as soon as the roads turn "twisty"

I live in an area with some of the best "Twisty/Winding " roads in Australia ( Great Alpine Way)

I to once considered cars like the GRC as "Toys" ... but after actual driving ......changed my view.

No Worries ... Sorry
Thanks..

Over here the term "Toy" is often used to reference an inferior version of something.. ie...Not the real thing..

Early VR30 problems centered around external engine components.

I think you and/or others have mentioned block porosity or an oil valve failing, but there's also a small number of GR Corollas that have caught fire. I guess neither car has a completely spotless reputation. Never heard of either VR issue during my 3 years as a Q60 owner. I just saw them throw AC compressor belts and develop turbo shaft leaks on the first 2 year models, something I could live with.

My wife has a Flame Blue Corolla Hatchback, and I love it. I saw Toyota used to make a Flame Blue GR Corolla, and I would be mighty tempted to get one so we'd have "matching" cars. But......

The potential for tuning is far higher for the Z than the GR Corolla, which appeals to me because I don't have anywhere to flex the awesome dynamics of a GR Corolla, but I have lots of places to eat up straight lines.

Good news for me is my wife wants a GR Corolla now that they are available in automatic, but I still wish Flame Blue was available.
