So I took the Z out yesterday, it was 96 degrees in California. Decided to see if there’s a difference between the stock Bridgestones and the recently installed Michelin PS4S tires. The car is a Proto 9 AT.

Key Observations:

- From a dig, in manual shifting mode, first through third gears is a massively noticeable improvement in grip. First gear does no chirp or a minor chirp, and there was no slippage in 2nd-3rd. The engine noise was finally translating to power being put down on the boiling hot pavement. I was literally surprised when I was moving forward without listening to constant spinning tires. It’s like comparing glue on hot tarmac to olive oil on hot tarmac.

- Also from a dig, in auto mode, the car surges forward with far more grip and is no longer making tire screeching sounds until you reach ~ 60MPH anymore. It feels/sounds just a bit like a R35 in auto mode, maybe like a 1/4 version of it.

- On the freeway, the ride feels better, as the Michelins are just a better engineered tire, and that makes the car feel more stable all around, whether it’s on-ramps, taking corners, braking, accelerating, etc. Makes me wonder if Nissan has some longstanding contract or alliance w Bridgestone…

- this is very similar to what happened when I put PS4S tires on my M177 C63 (non-S) version. The stock tires were weak yet when I added PS4s, the slippage in each gear went away, other than the occasional chirp in first, which is understandable.

-the VR30 revs extremely fast, making first gear in the auto a key test of your reflexes. Thankfully I’ve been playing GT for decades so that helps lol. The pull from 5K RPM onward is now much more enjoyable since your tires don’t feel like hair gel.

-the PS4S tires literally transform the car from a slippery, olive oil-laced rear driver to what it should have felt like from the factory—a twin turbo 6 that pulls hard and sticks to the road.

-Again it was 96 degrees and I dunno how big of a difference it’ll be at 60 degrees or lower, but at hot temperatures like this the car is now able to realize more of it’s full potential from my POV.

- PS4S also comes stock on my Plaid so it’s definitely one of the industry’s go-to tires for serious grip. Wondering how big of a difference it would make on an R35 over the stock Dunlops….

Good observations. Yeah seems like these days the MPS is the go to replacement tire. Nissan does have a relationship with both Bridgestone and Dunlop so this is probably why you don't see them as a OEM choice. However the RZ34 nismo accessory demo car in Japan I noticed is using the MPS with the NISMO LMGT4 wheels.

Did you try launch control with them? I get a decent amount of tire spin with squeal all through 1st on the S007s using it.

I didn’t get the chance to try launch control yet, but when hammering the throttle from a standstill it just hurtles itself forward with no drama. On the S007s it was squealing from a standstill whether in launch mode or hammering the throttle. So I expect it’ll be better but TBD how much better…Nissan’s launch control software is a bit sensitive based on my experience so far…

I had these on my G37. I'll be installing them on my Z (when the 007s wear out).

My EN came with 'em from the factory, and they truly are something else when it comes to street-oriented tires.

With regards to 60 degrees and below, I've been diligent in giving them time to warm up and they're usually fine. I haven't driven them in temps below 40 for a multitude of reasons, but that's something we don't experience much out here (also in CA) so not as much of a concern.

Glad you're liking them. They've made a big difference on my 335i as well. I've pretty much gone through 3 full sets and a extra set of rears since 2017 and can't personally recommend a better tire for street use. Previously I tried a bunch of different tires on my 370Z and nothing compares.

That’s great. I have them and yes it’s slightly better than OEM Bridgestones. Did you get a bigger size tire? Or oem size?

OEM size match, no change. Btw what location / weather are you in to only notice a slight difference ?

Called it as soon as Nissan released the stock tire specs. Simple move to a better tire (like the MPS4S) would make a world of difference.

Lol! Ya! I never even tried the Bridgestone tires. I had purchased purchased the Pilot P4 S’s about 1 month before the car was scheduled to arrive at the dealership. I had them install the tires before I took possession of the vehicle. I had read that the Bridgestone tires were crap lol. I recommend buying them! Kinda pricey, but well worth it! 😀

Great to hear 👍🏻, seems to echo the findings of many shops/tuners that have been pushing for lower 1/4 mile times, in that while the Z suspension may not be well-suited for pure straight line acceleration, a higher grade tire is a sufficient bandaid for much of the grip issues

Now if only Nissan could figure this out 🤔...

They're married to Bridgestone for no good reason.

Oh I’m sure there’s a good reason, those crap tires prob cost them pennies, so the finance dept probably loves em lol 😆

Atleast the NISMO will get a slight upgrade with Dunlops

When I bought my 40th Anni. 370Z, owner number 1 was kind enough to put a fresh set of Pilot Super Sports on it - I never had tires like that before.

The first weekend I had the car, it was raining pretty hard, couldn't see a damned thing. the car felt like it was on dry ground and it was SOLID, I never felt so "safe" in my life. Also when dry the grip was amazing.

I only buy Michelins now, IDGAF how much they are or what's "almost as good for x amount less" - the way I drive on the streets, I need all the help I can get lol

I just watched this recently, the Continental SportContact might be even better for traction?
