Over the years I've owned plenty of Z's and Corvettes. Both excellent sport cars. But for some reason the Corvettes just don't do it for me anymore. I'll take the brand new Z every time over a used Corvette. Plus I prefer buying brand new with factory warranty over used with no warranty. There's no substitute for being the original owner with that new car smell. You have to love day one, collecting you new car at the Dealership.

I’m gonna have to get preowned Z or Vette. In agreement with new Z retail being ridiculous for what you get outta the package, & you have to upgrade suspension stuff already to put 400 to the ground which some others do outta the box. Even new C8’s jumped to 90-100k for stingray even. Spending 60 retail on modern Z , then thousands in upgrades, then overheating limp modes is not easy sell compared to before the prototype release (was more excited then for Z). I used to PDI c6 z51 vettes for local Chevy dealer, can totally work a c7, maybe c6 z06 with such costs and be more fun.

I agree with the sentiment, but the new Z is being sold as a GT car (except the nismo). It's made soft for the those that want a nice looking and powerful car that don't do any serious driving. As it is stock, it is capable of some spirited driving, but just that.

Performance or nismo trims are the only ones would even consider. Base sport is like all previous base Z, but now 400 ponies are all over the place with open diff, basic suspension & brakes & tire width. Even my 370 touring 40th with akebonos didn’t perform near as good on my mountain twists until adding nismo suspension complete.

The C7 is pretty incredible for what it is, we’ve thought about grabbing one but their ethos just isn’t compelling enough. You instantly feel as if you’ve been imprisoned by the stereotype given the creature sacrifices to be turnkey quick & loud. In that price range I’d take an F-Type R AWD any day over the C7. If Z06 money, I’d still grab the F-Type in SVR trim or a DBA R35, maybe a 718 Cayman (any trim) but certainly not a C7 Z06 haha jesh.

Yeah, it also seems Aston Martin vantage performs similar/ with similar shape to new Z. Wish could find affordable not too beaten GTR35. Father had 911 targa in my L.A. 80’s youth. I could only rent them Porsches like I did the Lamborghini Gallardo 5 times.
I feel they could have offered the base new Z with 2.0t like the Infiniti q?
Bmdouble-Yota offered two engines in that modern Supra thing I won’t sit in too long.

I've become a big Corvette guy over a period of time. I've been through SO many performance cars, and it's truly difficult to beat the Vette for what it is and for the value, power, looks, and presence it brings. My 16-year-old would pick the Nismo Z everytime, and I would pick the Vette. Both are great. Try them both one at a time. I try to buy new only, so it would be the current C8 for me.

Base is for the hard-core modder to paint the canvas to their artistic expression. Add on all the performance upgrades of choice. Why I prefer sport trim.

Interesting vid about the base C8 stingray limits on the track.

@Bumflik

Thank you for sharing.

I used ferodo racing brake pads for my Toyota FR-S/86 back several years when I was tracking the car on a regular basis and had a great experience.

The AP racing brake componentry looks very good. Would love to upgrade if I ever decide to start tracking the car heavily but probably not anytime soon.

That's interesting that they took off the magneride suspension parts even though I'm not a fan of that anyway and I prefer more simplicity if possible. Before I switched over to my Z06 vehicles, my prior stingray Corvettes did not have magna ride but my family's current suburban high country does have the magna ride but that's not really a sports car of course.

Sometimes I feel less is more and then upgrading the essentials with heavy track use can always be good reasoning.

Agreed. Less is more! Yea Chevy wanted to check boxes for comfort cuz most vette owners are retirees. I prefer a hardnose dedicated performance vehicles. Just give me the stiff dialed I'm suspension for ultimate grip and traction.

The Nissan z and Toyota Supra and Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ and the Mazda Miata and the mustang GT and the Hyundai performance cars and the Volkswagen performance cars and many others are good substitutes alongside but of course they may need slight tweaking if you're going to track those vehicles. I think most vehicles need adjustment on suspension and brakes and hopefully not cooling issues if you decide to go high performance driving on the road course.

I had a Type r and it was sublime straight from Honda. Suspension was capable and had adaptive damping. Perfect car for all the boxes like commuting with family, all season car and track weapon.

I had a 23 Civic type r as well and from what I hear it may have cooling issues and most likely fuel starvation issues so you have to keep the fuel well above half tank if you're tracking the car aggressively.
