Windshield replacement

I did a preliminary search on here but did not find anything specific. For those of you that had the misfortune of having to replace their windshield, did it require recalibration at the dealership? I checked with Safelite, but they said it may require dealership recalibration. Has anyone had an independent glass shop successfully replace your windshield?

Safelite recalibrates; they did my Grand Cherokee a few days ago.

They're quoting the Z for in-shop replacement at $452, which includes recalibration.

It does and an independent shop recalibrated my Z.

Id be concerned they're doing a bait and switch price at this low. Like "after insurance" as the cheapest I was able to find after 10 quotes was $900, no insurance claim.

It's a legit pay out of pocket quote. Exactly what I did with our Wrangler and Grand Cherokee this month. You pre-pay online and that's it. Use promo codes, shopping portals, etc. for additional discounts and/or cash back.

On both mine this month I was able to use the $45 promo code, 10% cash back credit card deals, and bonus United Airlines miles.

The Wrangler came to around $300 and Grand Cherokee about $800. The Grand Cherokee is quite a bit more due to all the sensors/cameras, acoustic glass, HUD coating, etc.

After the experience with my Z I won't take any of my vehicles to Safelite again.

Safelite nicked my roof when replacing my windshield. I made them pay for a body shop to repair it, and when disassembling the car to repaint the roof the shop found the Safelite tech had broken the a-pillar trim on both inside and outside AND had attempted to glue everything into place with black silicon, indicating their efforts to cover it up were deliberate. Cost them over $6k for the roof repaint and replacement parts.

After the experience with my Z I won't take any of my vehicles to Safelite again.

Safelite does not use a Nissan OEM windshield they use aftermarket crap from China. I would take my car to a local shop that will install an OEM windshield and just pay the difference. My daughter has a Nissan rogue safelite did her windshield and after six months I’m already having issues with the molding inside and out. I have a 66 Chevy C-10 Safelite would not even install the windshield because they said it would leak. I use a local Shopp and payed out-of-pocket and haven’t had any issues. Unfortunately, anytime a windshield is replaced on a car it’s never the same, your chances are much greater of getting it right with a OEM windshield.

Basically, if someone bumps the camera, it has no way to know it's positioned wrong. So, they require it because to avoid the liability.

Also, there is WPF, it's shit, but I still use it now. Better than a windshield every year.

They do; Jeep guys use it.

Every piece glass is different, slight variations to the curvature, etc. will distort the camera view/angle. The calibration accounts for this. This is also why you want the vehicle without a heavy load in the trunk during calibration so it's reset back to factory equivalent settings.
