Lets do some comparisons.

Supra 3.0 curb weight is 1530kg (3,373lbs)
Supra 3.0 Premium curb weight is 1540 (3400lbs)
Z “sport” auto curb weight is 1610kg (3,549lbs)
Z “performance” curb weight is 3602lbs.

For reference, a stock 3.0 Supra runs the 1/4 mile in: 12.2 - 12.5 seconds

would the weight of the Z deter you from buying it?

Well, the weight and power specs add up to the 0-60 or 1/4mi run time. People don't want a slow turd for sure. It's gotta have substantial improvement over the 370Z. If the Supra is in the low-12sec for $50K, then the Z likely be in the high-12sec for $40K.

On balance, and all else being equal, more weight is always a negative, at least in the weight range we are talking about here. For me it will depend how well the engineers have designed and tuned the suspension and chassis to hide that weight's negative impact on the handling and connectedness of the car. Driving engagement is my primary consideration, not objective numbers on the drag strip or track.

Motortrend's curb weight measurement for the 2021 Supra 3.0 Premium is 3304lbs. Hopefully the weight specs we are seeing for the Z are also on the high side compared to actual weights.

Waiting on a Nismo version, but the weight won't deter me. I hardly weigh anything myself so there's somewhat of an advantage there ?

I believe my E92 weighs around 3571 lbs with a manual, so 3536 lbs for the MT Performance model doesn't bother me. I would prefer lighter, but this is pretty much what was expected.

Personally, I don't mind the weight disparity of the Z over the Supra, as I am more interested in the whole package of the car vs just 0-60, drag times etc. Plus being a TT, extra coolers, hoses, etc pushes the engine weight itself of VR30 +100lbs over the B58 in Supra...
