Wish I could vote on more than one. I drove a 280zx (s130) in high school so that would be my top choice. But a buddy had a 300zx (z32) in college and man was that a honey magnet. These are my top 2.

At heart I love all Z’s but the S30 is a cornerstone of automotive design so it takes it by a landslide. You can plug that bitch into any time period and it fits no matter what. Yoshihiko Matsuo was a genius.

If I have to pick just one it's the current-gen, impossible-to-find Z (RZ34).

If I'm allowed to rank:
  1. Z (RZ34)
  2. 350Z (Z33)
  3. 370Z (Z34)
  4. 300ZX (Z32)
  5. The rest
I almost bought a 350Z, but got a G35 Coupe 6MT instead. Is the 350Z the first with the vertical hinged door handle?

I was super interested in the 370Z, but got a G37S Coupe 6MT instead.

There is no new Q60 6MT...wait wait...no new Q60 at all! so I'll finally get a Z (maybe...if Nissan ever builds any).

I agree with you that the current-gen Z (RZ34) is a fantastic car, but I also have a soft spot for the 300ZX (Z32). That car was way ahead of its time in terms of technology and design, and it's still a blast to drive today.

As for the vertical hinged door handle, I believe you're right that the 350Z was the first Z car to feature that design. It's a small detail, but it really adds to the overall look and feel of the car.

I don't think it's fair comparing cars over such a long time span. So I'm going to say that my favorite old-school Z would be the 240Z, and my modern-day pick would be a tie between the 350Z and the new Z.

The new one is what made me finally pull the trigger on a Z so yup. The new one is my favorite.
I do like some of the old ones though too.

I am sort of biased, but from the design perspective, can't choose just one, so love the bookends - S30 and RZ34 - plus the beautiful Z32!

Gotta say Z32, as that was the car I drooled over in my early teens. Next thing I know the 300ZX and Supra were canned to make room for SUV production. Then Porsche started making SUVs. Thought about an RX-8, but couldn’t afford the daily quart of oil it would have needed. Went for a Z33 in ā€˜03 and it was a blast. I don’t know a lot about the 370. Never even sat in one. Really surprised the 350Z has almost 3x the votes as the 370.
I wouldn’t kick any of them out of the bed.
