The dealership I picked up my Z at put new front tires on it before I picked it up but when I got there the new ones were on the rear. What ever. When I got home from the 1800 mile trip home I thought something was off. I was installing spacers and found the service dept rotated the wheels when they put tires on. Well the manual says the wheels are not to be rotated because they have different offsets. When I switched the front and back wheels the car looked waaaay better. LOL Some service expertise eh???

Maybe I'm not a "real car guy" but the obsession with with tire stance for looks has always seemed pedantic to me.

My Z33 Track (staggered wheels/tires) had posts on the front hubs that came through the rotor hat so you couldn't accidentally put the rears on the front. If they don't do that anymore, which it sounds like they don't, it's probably because A LOT of people had issues with them. Specifically people that didn't know what they were or why they were there. Many didn't have issues until they got aftermarket wheels and the fronts wouldn't fit because of the post. Fortunately the post was just a hex head screw and spacer that you could remove.

Unfortunately, many people who work on cars aren't qualified to work on cars.

I’m not really sure what a “real car guy”is. I like the wider stance. I’m not sure why putting on spacers or deeper offset wheels is a bad thing , it’s a personal preference. If you don’t like the look it’s fine but referring to others who like that look as pedantic is unnecessary. Play nice.

People should do what they like. A car, especially one like the Z, is our toy. We should enjoy our toys the way we like.
To answer your question on why spacers are bad. the only thing I can think of is that it sets the wheel farther out, therefore causing more torque on the axles and bearings, and they weren't designed that way. In real world practice, I don't know if it makes a difference, but I can tell you that I would NEVER put spacers on a car that I use on a track. Also, by sandwiching a spacer in there, you can create vibration if you don't use a proper or high quality spacer.
Also, I would never use an aftermarket hub centric wheel that is not machined to the proper size, and use hub rings. Also a bad idea, and a source of possible vibration. If I go with a non OEM wheel, it would have to be a properly machined wheel that doesn't need hub rings.
All that said, it's just my own opinion and biases. Hence, why I'm a guy that usually likes to leave things stock. When I was younger, I was big into customizing my car, but quickly realized that the engineers design things a certain way for a reason. I also realized that I'm not smarter than these engineers, lol

After I looked up the meaning of "pedantic", I agree with this post.

I agree with you.
With one exception.

This.
No one should ever be allowed to do this.

I agree with that as well. Not because it looks silly, because it’s a danger. There is such little rubber in contact with the road, so it can be a safety issue.

I don't mean to attack anyone... was actually trying to play myself off as the fool.

My ignorance on the offests for the Sport rims is because I'm a lazy sob. Any "real car guy" who goes through the effort to mod a car to their preference is commendable, imo.

So, here's a quick breakdown on costs:

Z1 Nismo Bumper Conversion Kit: $1520 (kit was on sale for $500 off when I bought it)
Nismo Fender Liners: $108
Shipping: $320
Tax: $145
Paint & Installation: $900
Current Total: $2993

I also plan on getting the bumper wrapped in PPF, which will be another $700. I prefer the side skirts and rear bumper of the Performance model, and without the red Nismo striping I think it comes together well. Some people might say "you could have just bought a Nismo" and maybe there's some validity to that, but I really wanted the manual transmission and the blue interior was a must for me. I bought in April 2024 so the manual Nismo hadn't been announced yet.

Now with all that said, it's clearly not a cheap project, and the bumper kit is now a little over $2k alone. Not entirely sure I'd do it again as it was a process that took several months and caused a fair amount of stress (and it still isn't 100% done)...but I do love how it transforms the look of the car.
That's not expensive. Good deal actually for all work including bumper. Sheesh my Voltex wing was 2600$ on sale. So any major body kit or wing mod is gonna cost. You got a great deal 👌. Love it. Takes balls to be unique.

Thank you! I definitely got a great deal on the bumper conversion kit. I think the fact that I paid a lot less for a replacement bumper for my Lexus a few years ago is probably why this felt a little pricey...

While it's not super noticeable in that photo, the body shop didn't quite get the color right (in person it looks like 2-3 shades "brighter" than the hood/fenders) so they've got a PPG rep coming in to help as they are going to respray next week. Hopefully they'll get a better color match this time and then it'll just be a matter of waiting for the paint to cure so I can get it PPF'd and consider this project to be complete.

How's everyone cleaning their NISMO CAI filters? Compressed air? Or are there replacements we should be using? My car came with them installed already, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks man!
You're welcome. AMS makes the Nismo intakes so the air filters are the same. I'm personally a fan of a bucket of water with dish soap.
