I’m going to the dealership in few days to look at a 2023 performance Z with 8500 miles on it. Everything else is green so the only thing left as factor is taking a look at the car in person. That being said what are some things and places I should look at being this Z is used. Any insight would be great. Other than that really excited to get this on my hands.

at 8500 miles not much that can go wrong; and it’s still under warranty. Make sure it’s only one owner, and see when the first oil change was done. If all that checks out, make it happen.

Check the rear wheel wells for tire rubber residue ie excessive burn outs and donuts. If the factory rear tires look brand new there's a chance another set was used for the above use. Regardless if your buying from a stealership or private party have a dealer scan the download counter. This will show the download events and or if the car's had a tune. Check under the hood for telltale signs the factory air boxes have been removed. Look for tool marks on the fasteners and around the clamps. Confirm if it was a lease car. If so, chances are it was driven like one. This applies more so to lease/rental performance cars. Having worked in the automotive field for decades It's common for said cars to be gangbanged by everyone and his brother. When I bought my 2024 new in 2023 I had the manager take a pic of the odometer and told him to lock the car and put the Fob in his desk. Other than that, your GTG.

I didn’t think of the rear tire residue for possible burnouts. Thanks for the input! I’ll for sure be looking under the hood and possibly bring it to a shop to have a pre purchase inspection done. Other than that can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Another thing to look for, if the paint around the bolts atttaching fenders, hood, etc have been broken then body parts have been removed/replaced, check under the carpets for any musty smells. 8500 mi is not that high but could be rough miles. If a manual, you didn't mention, check the clutch action and any slippage or burning smells. Above tips are good. Always and always get a PPI from a shop you know, or a reputable dealer, it's a used Z. Good luck and keep us updated. I hope it's a great buy depending on the bottom line price.

I would look for some paint chips on hood and bumper. This paint chips easily. If it looks real clean it may have been resprayed.

Who is repainting cars at 8000 miles?

Exactly my point. No one unless there was a collision or paint issues. My point was it’s unlikely the paint would be perfect so if it is it may be worth it to question.

Review the CarFax and that should tell you a lot of what you want to know.

Where I'd cross the line is seeing attachment points where a roll bar was mounted.

I'm also looking at buying a used Z soon, the specific one i'm thinking about looking at first has 22k miles. Carfax says it was a lease but anything to check out on this specific one since it does have a fair bit more miles than the one OP was thinking about?

Service records would be nice especially if it doesn’t show on carfax. Factory recommended oil changes are only 10k so you definitely don’t want to see that interval. lol

In most cases the maintenance/oil changes are free on lease vehicles, so chances are it's on the 2nd oil change. When you go to look at the car, remove the oil filler cap and with a good flashlight inspect for milky looking oil and or see if the oil dip stick is permanently stained with a thick varnish. What I suggested to the other Gentleman goes double for you.
