Tint % advice for tan interior

*New to the forum.

Giddy with excitement that my 2027 Performance is due to arrive tomorrow to the dealership. The spec is white with a tan interior (manual) - I view it as more grand touring car than sports car. I do think the black/white tuxedo look with dark tint is sharp on a black interior but with tan I’m going for more of a luxury aesthetic - thus, considering lighter levels (even fishbowl/clear).

Seeking input on ceramic tint percent - sides and back (could be different or the same). I’ve learned that the lower the %, the darker. Dealer suggests 20% rear and 35% for the sides.

please consider my intent and advise accordingly. Thanks!

I know nothing about tint percentages but I am very fond of the new tan interior from what I've seen.

Please post photos of that interior after you get your car. Congratulations!

I'm a big fan of matching sides & back to keep a uniform look. 30% ceramic (Llumar IRX is what I have on our 3 vehicles) is where I find the sweet spot to be for heat rejection without over darkening and making night visibility difficult. Also look into a clear ceramic film on the windshield to cut UV, IR, & heat; I personally use Llumar AIR80.

My advice: Use a professional tint shop rather than the dealership for better quality installation and more choice in films. Most films the mobile installers that dealerships use are subpar (not all ceramics are created equal).

This is basically what I have (50% full windshield thought). I usually go 5% sides/rear and 30% full windshield on my daily’s, but with the Z I thought that might be too dark with the small cabin.

With the tan interior, it depends what your goals are. If you looking for exterior aesthetics, you will want to go darker. The tan will for sure show through the film more than a darker interior would. The tan interior will also make the cabin feel brighter always.

if it were my car, I would do 20% sides/rear and 50% full windshield, but it also depends on what state you’re in and how strict they are. I’m in FL… I’ve only been pulled over once in 30 years for tint being too dark.

One other thing… Never get your window tint from the dealer! These are high volume, less experienced kids. Go to professional shop that specializes in window film. You’re also overpaying at the dealer. Make sure that you are doing your research and asking what film they use. Just saying “ceramic” means nothing. I also recommend XPEL or Hüper Optik.

Make sure your tint is rated as UV blocking.

Years ago there used to be a tint color that mimicked the RayBan smoky green. I had it on my Acura Legend. I haven't been able to track it down recently, but it's a great match for luxury or GT cars.

The closest modern equivalent is available in a smoky slightly brown color, that'd be my pick for a new Z with the tan interior, especially the green Z.

Congratulations! they are finally arriving...
In my experience, I always ask the dealer to tint the windows the darker allowed by the state. It's not that dark but dark enough. It always looks and works perfectly.

So torn here and need to provide direction tomorrow. Currently thinking to go 20% rear and 35% sides. The other option would be uniform at 30% on sides and back.

In the case of 20% & 35% combo - which % should I do for the quarter window behind the door?

Tinting the front windshield is not a good idea.

It makes all your tint look darker than it really is, could possibly attract the law

It reduces visibility at night, just like tinting your headlights. I always feel stock LED headlights aren't really that bright, and tinting the windshield just makes them seem a bit dimmer....

It's against the law.

I know it looks better, and might be ok somewhere that has nice roads, weather and street lighting. In WA State, we have bad weather, long winter nights, curvy roads and much of the copper to our street lighting has been stolen, definitely not a good idea here.....

This is why I suggest, and use, Llumar AIR80/90 as it's optically clear yet blocks 99% UV along with IR and thermal heat! Best of both worlds. I use it on sunroofs and factory tinted glass too.
