Taxes/brokerage for JDM parts

For those who have purchased from Blackhawk, RHD, etc. (direct from Japan), and those who know, do you have to pay import tax and/or brokerage once the ahipment arrived to the US?

I bought two Z items from Japanese sellers in 2025. My purchases included all duties in the price (seller paid them in advance) so no.

But if that is not the arrangement, you will be contacted by customs to pay the fees due before they clear it for delivery.

Purchased from RHD. I had to pay (import fees) before delivery.

Did the they tell you how much, or about how much the tax would be?
Mocking up a coilover purchase and don‘t remember which site, but the shipping options all said something like ‘exclude import taxes’ in parentheses. If the day comes I want to pull the trigger on something pricey I want to make sure I’m not caught off guard by hundreds in taxes.

Well, I went to the customs website to look. They break it down type of goods purchased. BUT... What I saw is NOT what I paid.

My calls to get an answer fell on deaf ears. FWIW.

They are usually prepaid, like from Nengun you can see it at the checkout page. I was planning to buy the nismo titanium exhaust and it quoted for $1500 shipment and $1100 tax, which holds me from passionate purchasing.

It depends on the shipping method. I have purchased other items from Japan, and some shipping methods (UPS) billed me after shipping, before arrival, while others took an upfront payment
