Sport vs performance trade off

Hello, this is my first time posting in this forum, its actually my first time posting or even reading any forum. I've been reading a good amount of threads lately and its actually pretty interesting.

Anyways, I've been wanting a Z for a very long time now, I'm crazy for it, specifically the boulder grey one and I've been wondering about the trade off between a performance.

I know pretty much all the differences between the sport and the performance and right now the market value is pretty even between a brand new sport and a slightly used performance. While the performance has some very very appealing additions, I'm questioning if its worth getting a sport if it means I'll be the very first owner.

If it were up to me I would 100% get a performance but the issue is my current car (2018 Mercedes C300) is giving me way too many issues and i do not want to pay the ridiculous repair costs of a German and I'm hoping to get out of it as soon as maybe even the end of this month, that being said, while there's a good amount of brand new sport trims sitting in dealer showrooms and lots, there's not that many slightly used performance trims laying around.

if you were in this situation and christmas comes around with no performance trims around, would you do a sport trim?

If you truly care about “performance”, the Performance trim will not satisfy. And if you’re gonna end up swapping the suspension, brakes, wheels , etc. anyways, I see no reason to pay the extra $10k. Unless you just really love Bose and leather!

The Performance trim just never made sense to me. The difference between the Sport and Performance on the road is negligible for “real” people (see: not keyboard racers or out of touch Motor Trend columnists), and the GT characteristics will be adequate for most drivers. But then the Performance doesn’t go far enough to satisfy true performance enthusiasts.

I went with the Sport. Paid $37k for a ‘24. I don’t care about leather, and if I get the mod bug, I can get a diff, suspension, and brakes for <$10k that far outperform the Performance trim.

First: You're going to be happy either way.

March 2025, I negotiated (or "was lucky enough to stumble into") a new 2024 NISMO for the MSRP of a Performance. If you haven't already, talk to a dealer about a new Performance, especially if it's a 2025. They may move to a spot you're comfortable with.

If not, it really depends on what you want from the car. Others here can go into that deeper than I can.

My opinion if you can't twist the dealer into a new Perf, go with the new Sport. You can't put a dollar amount on the value of brand new car smell and un-farted-in seats.

traction wise this car needs the LSD with the M/T. not as much of an issue with the A/T

For me the looks of the interior was the deciding factor. The sport interior gives me the base model vibe that you would drive off the airport rental lot.

The most useful option for me is the power seats - I’m constantly tweaking from laidback to focused driving - the switch location makes it fast and easy to adjust the seats.

i also enjoy the wireless CarPlay and larger touch screen.

You must have money. I come from a long line of Mustang V8s and I can tell you the performance is miles above any American car.

It's not just leather and Bose. It's actually quite a bit of shit.

Is it worth the price? No.

I own a 2024 performance and can tell you every last Nissan Z is overpriced.

The Bose, heated seats, pleather, aren't worth the extra $10k, IMO. The LSD is worth 2k.

2 knocks on Sport , Lack of LSD and speed limiter. Both can be remedied. Tune in spring for me and an aftermarket LSD. Problem solved. The performance trim doesn't give u performance sways or track performance shocks or other upgraded suspension components either. Other than that the powertrains and manual gearbox is the same. I'd take a sport any day. I get to pick my own aftermarket wheels and I got a serviceable downforce Aero wing 🪽 hehe. Next is a hot front Aero lip

The sport top speed is limited. It's not pleather. It's leather and alcantara. The wheels and brakes are upgraded. Anyone saying the performance isn't worth it, go buy a sport and just upgrade the wheels and LSD and you will be bankrupt.

I also didn't mention. Sport has the Oil Pressure Gauge. Actually manual allows for it on performance trim. I was wrong. But yea its a preference of choice either way. Zis a great car.

To the OP @clogrich you’re considering a slightly used Performance vs a new Sport, so could be easily be done for about the same pricing nowadays. Plenty of ZP on lots, so I would test drive both, not so much for straight line performance as they both are just about equal, but for content, mainly interior niceties, huge difference! I tested both, the ZP is much nicer, materials, trim, Nav, Bose etc. plus of course the LSD is almost a must for stable cornering and accelerating. I don’t know plans for your Z, so if for an outright performance build then start w the ZS and modify to your budget, suspension, wheels/tires, engine etc. But for a daily, get a comprehensive PPI on a low miles ZP and you’ll be good. And Warranty will still be there.

I got a new 2025 ZP because dealer plus Nissan incentives got pricing down quite a bit. Good luck and let us know

Many hate the performance version too but I can live with it. I’m leaving car stock so wanted as much as I could get so the wheel size and look mattered too. Bought my 24 heritage used with only 1,800 on clock at a STEEP discount so got everything I wanted albeit would have preferred the performance wheels vs heritage design.

This is just my opinion on my thought process so no one drag me.

Yeah I agree, I actually went to go test drive a sport a bit after my original post and it was a huge difference. The one I test drove was automatic and I left the dealer with two things extremely clear.

1. I def need a performance. Im not about to have no LSD, no heated seats, no wireless car play, 18 inch wheels, base brakes, no Bose audio, etc... just to save maybe 1-3k and buy a 0 miles sport, I'd much rather the slightly used performance.

2. I need a manual. This was already what I had in mind but the test drive confirmed it for me. The auto felt slow when downshifting (didn't try it in manual mode cause it had no gas) and it felt bland

Yeah but if I can find a used performance with less than 10k miles for the same price, maybe even cheaper than a brand new sport, it would make more sense to do that, still a practically new car

if I bought a sport and bought a 2k LSD I could js buy the performance off the jump and get the LSD + a good amount of other things that I like

if I were deciding between a new sport and a new performance I would 100% do what you did though, makes a lot more sense in that case

New for New for both trims. Sport all day, especially if you plan to mod it. If you want the amenities that is offered in the Performance, then you will not regret it.

The auto shift mechanism was an absolute no go for me. Hated that from the get go. Manual is a bit notchy and 2nd gear down shifts are quirky but you get used to it. Love the manual.
