"The cost-saving measures are sweeping and will target several areas of the business. In addition to cutting 20,000 jobs across its global network, spanning direct, indirect, and contractual roles, Nissan is overhauling its development processes. The company aims to reduce its workforce’s average cost per hour by 20% and cut parts complexity by 70%.

Additionally, the Japanese automaker plans to reduce the number of platforms it uses from 13 to 7 by fiscal year 2035. It also aims to shorten the development lead time for upcoming models to 37 months, with the goal of cutting it further to just 30 months for future models. Among these new Nissans are the next-generation Skyline, a new C-segment global SUV, and a compact SUV from Infiniti."

When they close down their well known scummy dealerships in the US, and completely revamp their entire structure of dealerships then maybe they will stand a chance to actually being a good company. Who knows, be the first company to actually be transparent about prices paid and make it a genuinely good experience for people both in service and sales. Maybe that will bring in a person or two.

My buying experience for the Z was not so great. The sales guy was used to pushing high pressure sales tactics and it showed. I wasn't a sub 400 credit score looking at an Altima, I was a buyer willing to pay cash. For supposedly being one of the highest volume dealers, I expected more. (basic things like amenities or just showroom upkeep.)

The coffee place closed at 5 (I was there after 5), and the dealer was overall just very barebones. Plenty of Nissan dealers I've been to afterwards didn't even have a coffee shop; they had a vending machine at best. Just seems like a horrible experience for buying a $60,000 car, or even a car in general. I've always been a Mazda guy, but given I don't want an MX-5 and the Mazda 3 6MT (while nice) is FWD and slow, so that puts me out of that market but man are their dealerships generally nicer.

Nissan is not a good experience as a brand, If they change that then maybe it will be worth another look. I don't plan on getting rid of my Z, but my next car will not be a Nissan based on their current lineup (likely a GR:C or MX-5.) Even if they DID have a Silvia/240sx like car come out in the future with a manual transmission, I'd likely avoid buying new just to avoid the dealer experience again, it was that bad to me.

My dealership experience was actually nice, staff was over all pleasant, environment was clean and modern, self-service coffee plenty. It's always good to get to know someone personally at the dealership before any negotiations later. It's just the always annoying finance guy that tries to push other 'perks' on the sale - ceramic coating, alarm, etc etc. - but happy got the final numbers I settled for. The internet price was solid with no markups.

Sadly brands dealerships are hit or miss. The BMW dealership that I patronized provided outstanding amenities. The Audi and Volvo dealerships amenities were just OK. I’m actually more concerned about the competence of the service department than if they have fresh donuts and coffee. I’ve taken my Z to two dealerships one belongs to the network where I purchased my Volvo and Mazda. I went there for my first service and noticed after I left the did the tire rotation incorrectly mixing the rear and front tires. The second is a smaller local dealer and as far as amenities they offer the bare minimum, but so far their parts and service department have been top notch!

Luckily I didn't pay a markup. If they didn't have the only Seiran blue with blue interior within a few hundred miles I wouldn't have dealt with them, though. Sales guy was at times pushy and annoying. He insisted I put down a cash deposit to hold my car until the next day, when I told him no, he asked my girlfriend sitting next to me. Took about four emails of asking for an OTD price to get an OTD price before I came in, you could tell he was used to pushing volume cars with high pressure sales, at least that's the vibe I got.

Oddly enough, the finance guy was probably the least annoying. He did try to ask about the add ons, but after I declined he didn't try again.

Luckily I didn’t have to deal with that my Z was pre owned. The price I negotiated over the internet was what I got. They didn’t try to push anything offered it I said no and we moved on.

I haven't had experience with this dealership's service department yet, will see at my first servicing. Another Nissan dealer's service dept closer to home was excellent in getting my work done and not pushy on repairs. I got to know the service mgr well over the years when had my Xterra.

My local Nissan dealership is great. A lot of it is attitude and perspective - on both sides.

Most of the ones I've been to are hot garbage, unfortunately. Service people have been okay, not pushy (but it's also a new car, so it doesn't 'need' anything.) The one dealer that really excelled in service I'll say is a very small dealer near my house. Took the car in for my nismo intake install, charged me an hour of labor and had it done in about an hour exactly, flawless.

Went back for an oil change, same (though the service advisor did try to sell me an oil additive, you'd think they could read the room on that one.)

Took it in for a cooling diag because it got warmer than usual one day and the tech actually performed the same test on another performance model they had in the showroom and sent me a vid to verify, that place I am okay with (though they still lack some amenities, but its never crowded so that's a plus.)

An open full service coffee bar would do wonders, but that's not the whole part obviously.

Well their handling of the Honda merger showed them to be arrogant and arguably foolish. They probably don’t think we deserve free coffee. Their arrogance left a bad taste for me. I hope they stay afloat, but part of me thinks they deserve to end up with nothing and choke on it.

I took that to mean that maybe their financial situation wasn't as dire as they were expecting. I wouldn't mind seeing Nissan make a course correction, I think they have the potential to be a great brand again, but as it stands right now it seems like the Chrysler of japan in a way.

Minus the Z of course; History has shown when they really want to make a fun car they can do it. They just have to work on their subpar lineup and dealer experience and I think they can likely be fine.

A good business case is here, Mazda's path. A niche carmaker with low volumes but aggressive in ramping up technology for the future. Nissan I think could survive, while not forgetting the performance side of models like the Z, future 240SX/Silvia coupe, even GT-R. Hybrids are the volume sellers though. Ivan may just succeed in delivering.

" Mazda isn’t diving headlong into the electric transition, but it’s not standing still either. Instead, it is following a measured path, blending hybrid models with steady electrification efforts and continued updates across its core lineup. This includes a hybrid CX-5, updated sales targets, future EVs, and even new sports cars. "

The dealer I went to was actually transparent. I've bought two cars from them, each time there was mild salesmen voodoo attempts but that's part of the experience at a dealer. They even told me straight up about marking my Z up $6k "that's for our profit".

… and who is picking that number? Personally I believe individually owned but sponsored by manufacturer dealerships are absolutely ridiculous. Gouging for every cent
