When is everyone doing their first oil change? And where? Dealership, shop, or on your own?

Do you have ramps or other equipment to make the undercarriage more accessible?
Just a jack and stands. It's not ideal but I was able to do my exhaust and downpipes this way so figured oil wouldn't be too bad. I considered getting the Z1 undershroud at some point to make things even easier as well.

Dealer @ 2,000 miles. This way they could inspect the car too and see if there’s anything odd. They did a full inspection and gave me a report. No issues, all is like new they said.

Why is everyone changing their oil less than 5,000 miles? My 2024 Z just hit about 700 miles on it and I am not going to change the oil until it reached 5,000.

I did my first one at about 2,500 after owning it. It was more or less just because I wanted to. I was itching to find a way to lift it with my quick-jacks but they are kind of a pain to set up so I wanted a reason to do it. I also just wanted the experience of doing it and didn't care that I only had 2,500 on it.

It inspired me to get a new under-shroud for it to make it easier to get to the plug and filter. The stock plastic shielding is fine and you can just unscrew the back half of it and fold it down but its floppy and I don't want to have to take off the entire thing every time its like 12-15 bolts. Got the Z1 under-shroud so in the future it will only be 2 bolts for the removable service panel.

my next one will be 5k after doing all that but minimum once a year depending on how much I drive it, which right now is a lot so may end up being a Spring AND Fall thing.

Anyways, it does't hurt any car at all to do oil changes more often than recommended.

That raises a question. I do not daily mine bc it’s 57 miles round trip to work and I was putting a lot of miles on it. But, should I change the oil at mileage intervals, or length of time?

I have always been of the mind that milage is the more important measurement of when to change it. That said I personally would never go longer than a year and a half on any car. Too much temp change when it sits, even in a garage... I guess unless you have a fancy temp-controlled garage but if I had that kind of money I would be changing the oil all the time.

I drive it at least once a week to work. Too much fun not to and, on the weekends. So, the mileage will go up I may end up only changing it once a year though. Thanks.

The reason many change their oil before the first recommended interval of 5,000 is because car has a break in period of 1,200 miles and new engines will most likely be burning off lubricants and potentially metal flakes. So the idea is to get all of that out of the system as soon as possible.

I had my first oil change at 1,761 miles - it was a complimentary first oil change offered by the dealership at purchase.
