I just had my first oil change at the dealer. Personally, on new cars, I tend to go to the dealer and just micromanage them a bit. I just had my oil changed at 600 miles, mainly because the car is a year old, and I wanted the break in oil change done. I had a great experience at my dealer, and the service writer told me that the GTR's and Z's go to a technician and not an oil change person, due to them being lower and requiring a little more care. Ask the service writer if you can have a technician do the oil change, and not a lube person. I had a coupon, and I was in and out in an hour and if cost me $90 bucks. To me, it's much easier than trying to do it myself, and most importantly, I like going to dealer and having the oil change show up on the car fax, so if I sell the car one day, the new buyer can see the oil changes.

Once I hit the 1200 mile break in period, I changed the engine oil and filter. I'm sure the filter is doing its job catching metal filings and such, but it's also to flush out the assembly lube. It certainly doesn't hurt anything.

I also installed the Z1 Aluminum Undershround and a Fumoto drain valve while I was under there.

I missed the break-in oil change that people on here recommend around 1200-1500 miles or so. I didn't even think about it until reading around here. I also see that the owner’s manual’s maintenance schedule doesn’t require it. I DO see the point why people do it, BUT I am already at 2700 miles.

Should I change it now then every 5k after that or do you guys think I’ll be ok if I wait until 5k to do the first one?

It shouldn’t hurt anything TOO much if I wait until 5k, especially since it’s not in the owner’s manual and because I’m already at 2700 right? ?

I drive about 2200 miles a month so I should be at 5k In a couple/few weeks.

any input is appreciated ?.

Had mine changed three times so far, all at the dealer, and the car has about 12,500 miles. Did a Blackstone UOA on each one (need to send off the third sample.)

Based on my experience with what Blackstone has mentioned, it may help to wash out the break in byproducts but I'm not sure how much it might help otherwise. 5k likely won't matter in the scheme of things too much if I had to guess, but I can't imagine doing it sooner if possible would hurt.

I’ve owned a lot of new vehicles and after every break in period I’ve changed the oil. My personal opinion is that it is wise to get that oil out sooner rather than later.

With my Z, I intend to half what Nissan recommends for oil change intervals. Granted, my Z is not my daily.

Are you harming your engine by not changing it after the break in and waiting until 5k? Probably not, but who knows.

Oil is cheap insurance. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the reply. This makes me feel better. I’ll try to do it as soon as possible.

When is everyone doing their first oil change? And where? Dealership, shop, or on your own?
I purchase mine used with approximately 9K miles on it. I got an oil change immediately and planning getting another one this week with about 14K miles after my long trip this weekend.

Dealer @ 2,000 miles. This way they could inspect the car too and see if there’s anything odd. They did a full inspection and gave me a report. No issues, all is like new they said.
Same here, 2,000 miles

For those who are doing it yourselves, are you using OEM oil filters? What brand and weight of oil are you using?

Just had oil service (second since I owned it) done at 14K miles at dealer. It came to $55 including taxes not to bad and I was in in out in less than an hour.

Why is everyone changing their oil less than 5,000 miles? My 2024 Z just hit about 700 miles on it and I am not going to change the oil until it reached 5,000.
It’s good to go early for the first oil change - there is the potential for more contaminates in the oil from the normal engine break-in wear. After the first oil change you can resume the normal change frequency. i’m at 500 miles and I will change it myself at ~1,000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first.

Ps don’t forget the gear box and differential oil changes
. lol

10W-30 mobil 1 synthetic in every car i own. I’m located in the south east so winter temps are not a problem.

folks are also doing 5w-30. If you want to stay oem-ish, I would at least do 0w-40 vs the 0w-20. the closer the numbers the better for the oil’s shear strength. But with a 5-10K change frequency 0w-40 should handle that easily In a street car.

and purchased nissan filters made in japan.

That raises a question. I do not daily mine bc it’s 57 miles round trip to work and I was putting a lot of miles on it. But, should I change the oil at mileage intervals, or length of time?
Per the service manual never exceed 1 year

I plan to change the oil probably around 4 k miles, just had to ask about the filter, I ran into costly issues withyb2006 Subaru STI using aftermarket filters

I use 5w30 mobil 1 and Nissan filters and change it between 3k-5k miles. There is a lot of chatter on filter recommended vs what people actually use. I pick up my filters at the local stealership
