This is exactly why I wanted to use OEM, but didn't have/know the explanation. Now that I have the reason, I know I made the right choice to stick with an approved filter!
I'm not smarter than the Nissan engineers, so I will continue to follow their recommendation.

If this is true then all the Z's that are using the F0E filters that according to Nissan is the wrong filter should be having issues right? Also that's the filter Z1 sends in their oil change kits.

I mean, you don't need reasons to want to stick with OEM stuff right? I saw multiple sites that said the 65F0E was interchangeable with the factory oil filter. Not just Z1 but official Nissan parts website. That no longer says it and has changed. Obviously Z1 sold it with their kit and people have been using it.

I am no engineer either but I have have done many of oil changes and many types of maintenance on many different cars. It is more common than not that multiple oil filters will work just as good, if not better than whatever the OEM model number is. It is why you see many auto parts companies make "better quality" oil, air, etc... filters for cars. Those oil filters can be a bit larger or smaller too so that won't ever be a good determination of what should be used. Usually if it screws on and you have a good seal you are good to go.

There was zero reason for anyone to think the 65F0E was not a filter that should be used on the new Z. It's not going to kill the Z to run with it for a few months. Looks like there has been some new info though on WHY not to use it - which is why we discuss things like this and spread that info right?

Go team! :like:

I also reached out to Z1 to see if they will offer replacements in their kit

I will do the same. If they will send me a new filter that would be very cool of them.

Im using 9E01A. Its the GTR filter that is bigger. Fits the same and clears with no issues.

Its personal preference using the 65F0E or 9E01A
Does the GTR filter have the same by-pass pressure as the 15208 65F1B.

I looked for the exact PSI to compare and couldnt find the rating but its for a nissan turbo car and guys who build their GTRs to over 1K HP still use the OEM so with the larger capacity I would imagine its more than good enough.

the infiniti memo mentions the 65F0E not being good enough for a turbo car so I just have to think the GTR filter is equal to or better than the 65F1B.

will do more research also

It doesn't automatically mean that people will have issues. The way I read it, is as the filter gets used and the flow is restricted, the wrong filter will let unfiltered oil circulate sooner than with the proper filter. So, it will have unfiltered oil circulating, when it shouldn't.
All that said, I change my oil often enough that probably neither filter would go into bypass mode, so both would probably work equally well in my situation. And even if the car has no filtration, and the oil is new, I'm not sure that any significant damage would happen anyway.

Saw this related video on oil filter, they tested the most popular 3rd part oil filters. Most have a by pass valve.

they also did a OEM one, too bad they didn't do Nissan filter.

I use mobil 1 M1-110A on my GTR NISMO. I'm pretty sure it's also compatible with the Z.

Z1 got back with me.
I don't want to give false hope because everyone's circumstances will be different and I don't want to tell everyone who ordered from Z1 to go ask for a new filter but I did ask them if they would send me a new oil filter. Since I got the 15208-65F0E with my order and installed it they are sending me a replacement filter: 15208-65F1B.

They said if you use oil with a higher weight then the 65F0E is good to use but since mine was with the kit of 0W20 we should be using the 65F1A/B (The "B" is just the newer model of the same filter). They said Nissan did post a bulletin right after my order that the 65F0E should not be used with the 0W20 oil. I would assume any future orders of this kit from Z1 will have the correct filter.

So very very cool of them to send me a new filter. Good place to get parts from it seems.

Now I get to decide if I want to just replace the filter or do a complete oil-change again
I will probably just do a complete change again since I will be under the car.

So Z1 sent me the wrong filter twice in the last six months? I don't understand. When did the bulletin come out from Nissan?
