This has been rumored for awhile. The part I don't quite understand is what benefit there is for Honda.

Car companies bet heavily on the Chinese market and surprise, surprise, that hasn't gone the way they anticipated. In the long term, if the Chinese products are allowed to enter foreign markets without tariffs, most of the current companies will either be out of business or struggling to survive.

I can't speak to the rest of the world, but it seems pretty likely that there will be tariffs on Chinese goods coming into the US, at least for the next four years. Other countries with a less robust economy may not be able to fight a trade war with China, however.

Nissan may be doing worse, but honda too is struggling. This is a smart move and hopefully betters them both.
Honestly a better partner than Renault

Absolutely right, here in Australia we are absolutely flooded with very cheap MG garbage that some people are resisting, but most people don't care for brands as long as you get a new car with a long warranty.
Chinese cars are getting better every year, which makes it hard for the OG manufacturers to keep up. We can only hope that the amount of different Chinese car manufacturers becomes so many that they run themselves out of business due to flooding the market so much.

What I was surprised about was that Honda was in trouble. But on the other hand I’ll never buy another one.

Not been paying too much attention lately.
