Nismo Spec Dunlops

Recently went through a faux pas with the dealership and ordering "dunlops sp sport maxx 600s.

There are three main different "SP Sport Maxx 600s.
The OG spec: the original non run flat design without silent core design and slightly different overall dimensions
The GTR spec: has the run flat technology and stiffer side walls
The NISMO Z spec: This has the silent core design, different speed rating, and overall softer

there is about to be a new option for Z owners as the 2027 NISMO changes from dunlop 600s to the RS. those arnt available to order yet but will be in a few months


but yes there are a bunch of different 600s

the GTR actually had 2 specs the Sport Maxx 600 and the NR1 the NR1 is designed just for the GTR NISMO.

Why would you want to even go for the GT600's? There are so many better options out there the AD09 alone are better that's just to mention one of the 10 options out there....

When it was time to replace the S007s, nissan had a buy 3 get 1 free. So I tried the Nismo Z Dunlops, it was night and day difference and it worked.

Do they fit nicely on the stock Performance wheels? That's not a bad idea...

During my semiannual oil change, the dealer recommended replacing the rear tires, one of which was down to 5/32 to 4/32. All the others were fine at 6/32, but the LR has a small leak that causes tire pressure to lose 3 or 4 PSI every few weeks. Dealer quoted $910, which an AI chatbot said was a pretty good deal compared to Tire Rack, Walmart, Discount Tire. In fact Tire Rack and Walmart don't carry the size that the Nismo needs, and Discount Tire is back ordered. After confirming with the dealer that they were offering the OEM tires at the quoted price, I'm giving them a shot.

I asked AI if it was ok to replace the rear tires only, and it said yes, you don't need to replace all four tires every time you need new tires. The AI also said that wearing out the tires after only 9100 miles is normal.

I've got all four Dunlops available to sell to you with less than 1,000 miles on them. Went with Micheline's on my Nismo.

Also, regarding front or rear sets changing, not all four, it depends on traction variance between front and back, where wear should match as close as possible between front and back within specified ranges.

How Much Tread Difference Is Acceptable?

While there's no universal cutoff, these are practical guidelines:

For your Z, I'd aim to keep the difference to 2/32" or less between front and rear sets.

I haven't pushed my Dunlops REALLY hard, but I've got nothing negative to say about them. Initially a little concerned about wet performance, as it's my daily and there's a period where you get afternoon mega-downpours every day here in north FL (right now, actually). But I've had zero issues where it felt sketchy in really wet conditions.

I have a set of PS4S on Z1 wheels I bought early last year for my 350, RIGHT before I decided to harpoon a Z. I plan to burn through those before rewrapping the OEM wheels.

I am incredibly predictable and don't like change, like eating the exact same thing at a restaurant for years on end, but with tires I like to mix it up and try new things.

Maybe I'll go wild and try some Cosmo Mucho Machos. You can reshoe the whole car cheaper than one front Michelin/Dunlop. How bad could they be?
